Matthew 24:22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.

OR

does this mean that all of the saints would be killed, or does it mean
after a time no one will be willing to be born again so the church would in effect die off from lack of following...

It means at the end of the War of Armageddon, if Jesus weren't to come back and intervene at the point he does, man would totally wipe themselves off the face of the earth.

Taken in context, it probably means that everyone would be destroyed by the tribulations.

The "elect" are those who still enjoy God's grace, so this is a divine repreive from the wrath of God, for the sake if those who remain, and are faithful to him.

It meant the coming fall of Jerusalem under the Romans would be so vicious that no disciple would be left alive if God had not had mercy.
That in turn is a metaphor for the end of the ages.

The more populated the world becomes the more sin abounds. There will be less and less people willing to be saved because they are so wrapped up in their sins!
