Does anyone have any tips they can give me on foods. I don't know what foods that should be eaten and what not. Also does it work.

Thanks, hoping to lose a few stones here.

Do not get sucked into a diet like atkins or the south beach diet unless reccomended by your doctor. These diets can make you unhealthy and evidently make you gain weight in some cases. Instead try eating a small meal every three hours. Something low fat but packed with vitamins and protein to keep you full.
Example Meal:
Breakfast: Scramble two eggs and put on a toasted english muffin with a glass of pure orange juice. If thats not enough have a toasted slice of whole grain bread with peanut butter.

This meal is good because it has tons of protein to keep you full and lots of vitamins to give you energy.

Eating a small meal every three hours is better then 3 big meals a day because it doesnt lead to snacking, which is one of the main reasons for gaining weight.

Try and incorporate lots of water into this diet as well. Eight glasses is what is reccomended.

Also make sure your getting some excersize. That doesn't mean you have to go to the gym every day for an hour, instead you can do housework or walk the dog. As long as your doing some sort of activity at least thirty minutes every day.

Good luck!

Diets don't work. Diets are temporary, "quick-fix" things. Changing your eating habits and lifestyle permanently does. Any good weight loss program or book should tell you this. If you want to lose weight, control not only what you eat but how much of it. Don't deny yourself everything you want, because then you will tend to give up and binge on things you know aren't good for you. You can't live in this day and age without being aware of what's good for you and what's not. Use common sense, control your portions, reward yourself when you reach a goal. Eat foods as close to their original state as you can. For example, with vegetables, fresh is best, frozen is second, and canned is dead last (since they are many times cooked until there is no nutrition left and have a lot of salt, etc. added.) Same with fruit. There is no magic food that you should or shouldn't eat that with make you lose the weight. There are no magic pills, powders, or potions that with make it melt off. Be sensible about what you eat, how much, and how often. Learn to eat new things you've never tried before, or prepare them in a different way. Let's use spinach this time. I personally always hated spinach, until I grew up and started eating it as a salad green instead of boiled down to a nasty green slime. It actually tastes good the way God made it. And when it's fresh it retains the nutrients, since they don't get litererally boiled away in the cooking process. Choose leaner meats if you eat meat, remember that sweets are occaisional treats not their own food group, and avoid (for the most part) anything deep-fried. If you have a particular favorite thing that's bad for you, reward yourself with a little bit of it OCCAISIONALLY. If it's something you can buy just a little bit of (like a pint of ice cream in the freezer instead of a half gallon) then you won't be tempted to keep eating it until it's gone just because it's there. I've lost 52 pounds now and I eat everything I want when I want it, but only in limited amounts. After a while I actually lost my taste for very sweet and very fat-filled foods that I used to love. I still have my one really bad habit of putting sugar in my coffee, but they will get that away from me over my dead body. You can also talk to your doctor about your weight and get some nutrition counseling. Call your local public health clinic or whatever agency you have in your town where people go for public assistance, they usually have a nutrition counselor. You should be able to talk to them just for some advice even if you don't qualify or don't want the public assistance programs they offer. Good luck and know you're not alone!!

The best diet for weight loss and general well being is the Mediteranean diet. This consists of plenty of fresh fruit and veg, oily fish, pulses, lentils, nuts and seeds. Olive oil is used as the main cooking oil and little red meat, sugar or refined carbohydrates are eaten

It is a slow but sure way to lose weight , maintain the loss and improve your all round health and well being.

People in the Mediterranean region have a longer average life span than elsewhere in the western world and lower rates of heart disease, cancer etc.

Find out some more about it here and then get yourself a good book:-

Hi

Diets dont work you need to change your eating habits and excercise. I have lost almost 2 stone with the ediets plan at tesco:

http://www.tescodiets.com/index.cfm?&code=700500

You need to register- they give you advice on eating healthy and you can draw up personalised meal plans, which creates a shopping list for you to print out - or have delivered to your door. (the door delivery is great for me and means you wont get distracted by the biscuit and crisp isle)

I joined my local gym where they gave me a cardio program -which I do three times a week followed by swimming to cool down (council run gyms are less expensive and do not charge a big joining fee) I have also met some great people there.

I now eat very healthy, and enjoy my food, I even have a cream cake as a treat once a week,

Best of luck and stay motivated.

I know that if you want to lose weight cut out all soda. And definitely stop drinking diet soda. How many skinny people do you see drinking diet soda? Not very many. I did a research paper some years ago and there is something in diet soda that keeps your body from losing weight. Also, drink lots of water, the colder the better, your body uses calories to rewarm your body. Do not deprive yourself but recognize when your body is full and then stop. Eating more smaller meals a day is better than gorging yourself only a couple times a day.

if you really need to lose some weight and you have the physical ability you might consider what works for me
get some aerobic exercise daily (gradually build up your exercise session to 30 minutes then gradually build up to 45, 60 minutes)
the best way without doubt is jogging (start with fast walking and do not increase your distance too soon)
you can also use an elliptical machine or stationary bike
do not drink soda pop or eat fried foods or buttery foods
drink a lot of water and tea
go vegetarian and eat small meals each day such as fruit and oatmeal and rice & beans
make soy protein drinks if possible because its important to make sure you get enough protein when trying to lose weight
let me know how it goes

Honestly, diets don't really work. Try eating smaller portions and working out more. Maybe cut back on sugar a little and alcohol. Try different things. Mix it up. But don't say y ou are going on a diet because that is the best way to gain weight. The problem is that usually people can not stick to things. Work on trying to be committed to your goals.
