According to answers from my last question, most people described the 'target' as the destination or the conclusion that the archer was 'aiming' for, so then, what does the arrow symbolize?

"The mind" and yes it has to be a sharp pointy thing on one side hahahahaha! True without intent is that humour?

Do you think as we mentioned before that the arrow is made of the words constructed by the mind and shot by the will? or is it something other than the will? I want to know what your answers are?

Hello =)

Well,....

I didn't read your last question....but...to me...just the representation of "the arrow" to me always means:

Suffering or affliction derived from other than yourself.

Of course, we are responsible for 99.9% of our own suffering, naturally, but there are those occasions, when suffering is the result of someone else. Someone else's FAULT as it were....

In those rare events, it is as if we are shot by an arrow....

You know when this happens, too, because you go into the same sort of shock as a person who has been shot by an arrow...you look around, wonder "where on earth did this come from??" You are slammed over the head by the unexpected....shot by the arrow, as it were.....

The Buddha once said that when shot by and arrow, it is foolish to ask where it came from, what it was made out of, who did the shooting, and so forth.....instead, you should merely pull it out, and dress the wound. If you spend too much time pondering over the nature of the arrow, instead of dealing with the wound, you will die.....

Namaste,

--Tom

The arrow is the evil deed and the archer is the sinner. The target is Heaven. For me this is simple logic.

the light of consciousness, or the part of you that is the soul- the God essence in you...

although, now that i'm thinking about this metaphor alot- it seems to be slightly off... i think that the arrow/ target metaphor is very yang, and i think that achieveing enlightenment might be more yin. to open up and recieve the light of consciousness rather than aim and shoot for Divinity. in other words, it's always there...all we have to do is surrender to it and let it BE. there is nowhere to go~ it is now here

i dunno.
