I'm going on my first date [haha] and I need a list of places to go. The movies would be 'okay', but I would want to go on a date where he and I could conversate a little and have fun, too.

Keep it simple. Don't go to the movies...you can't talk there...the best you could hope for is a make out session, which isn't really great on a first date anyway. I'd go out for coffee if I were you. (or cocoa or whatever) You can actually sit down and talk to one another and it's less stressfull than a serious date. It also doesn't take a long time, so if the date isn't going well then you can go home in a reasonable amount of time, if it does go well then you can stretch it out over a meal.
Do something where you have to talk or do something with your hands, like bowling for instance, yes it's kinda cheezy, but you two can talk plus you have an activity that makes it a fun evening.
Good luck!

Things to consider. You can go for the excitement of the location or the excitement of your partner. If location, think observing something happening as the purpose of the exercise. If you want to focus on your partner, look for locations that permit the focus on each other rather than the location. Example. Movies, plays, shows, musicals, entertainment venues, all focus on the location and don't permit much interaction with your partner. Going to a museum, any exhibits, anything that doesn't make noise but presents visual opportunities, all will allow you and your partner to both enjoy the visuals and get to know each other. These are guiding principles, rather than specific suggestions. Hope they're helpful.

Try a fun resteraunt, and then a movie for down time. Or maybe like the riverfront (depending on where you live).
