I've heard this term in movies and TV, when Vietnam vets are talking about distance. "Yeah, we spotted Charlie about three clicks out." How long is a click, and what is the origin of this term?

People you are trying to hard.....When some one refers to a "click" it meens about a mile. 1 click = about 1 mile. Not sure of the origin.
