only major problem I have heard of is the ball joint recall for the durango and dakota. so I would have the ball joints looked at before buying the durango. the 5.2 v-8 and the 3.9 V-6 gets about the same MPG. so go with the V-8 or you will be like most durango dakota owners out there and say with I had a V-8
www.dakota-durango.com
go here and ask the peopel there. they will not tell you lies and will let you know from their expirences with the vehicles. where I hang out with my 03 Dakota.

I have an '05 Dakota. there were a couple of recalls on the Durango. You can find out about them on the Dodge website.
make sure You have a mechanic check it out first. if it's legit, the seller should have no problem with this.

the automatic transmissions on dodges tend to be problematic...other than that i haven't heard anything.
edit: yes the v8 gets bad gas mileage. but a v6 in that SUV would too, since it would have to work harder. at least w/ the v8 you have power and towing capabilities if you ever need them.
