I did the exact same thing and it turned out wonderful. We used asian colors, gave each table the name of a city in asia, and had fortune and almond cookies with our name and date inside. We also had these gorgeous centerpieces that almost looked like trees. Once you get to the music, people just want to have fun on the dance floor. You don't have to have asian music. Everyone was talking about it for months afterwards.

I think this is fine. If you want, you can have your musical selection interspersed with romantic Chinese songs (sorry I don't know of any to suggest them to you). It will be your day so do whatever you feel makes you happy. Furthermore, if most of your guests are familiar with R&B Classic Soul music, they will appreciate this more than something else they aren't quite familiar with.

if you want to wear powder blue tutu and serve lucky charms while doing the running man and the robot to billy ray cyrus. you do what makes your heart happy. if these things will make for your cool memories....do what you like.
