You aren't a bad person, but this is a condition that must be treated. You definately should seek medical attention. Though you may feel to be in control when you do the cutting, you will soon develop a need to feel as though you must cut yourself even more to get the gratification you are no longer getting. Some day, you may cut yourself the wrong way and cause irreversible phyical harm.

From one cutter to another. Of course it is bad, inflicting harm upon yourself because we are too weak and cannot handle emotional pain. I understand that when you cut yourself it is not the matter of wanting to kill yourself but it does feel like an instant release of emotional pain plus it is so much easier to deal with physical pain instead of emotional. Life is hard, and cutting yourself becomes easy. Dealing with what life has to hand us may be harder but we become so much stronger when we actually learn to deal in a more positive manner. However you want to look at it, it is wrong, there is actually no other way to look at it. Are you a bad person? No. The only way to stop is to fight the urge and learn to love yourself. Just knowing that you are worth so much more will also allow you to deal with the emotional pain in a much more positive way. I hope this helps and just know that it will be a struggle but always remember you are strong and never forget your worth .

oh hunni, im sorry about all the stupid answerers with no consideration!
i am a self harmer too. i was hospitalised after attempting suicide (overdose). it is great that you are not suicidal like me, cutting is bad, but it is a coping strategy. no one can stop you from cutting. i have been suspended from school and rehab due to cutting but that hasnt stopped me! there is help out there but it doesnt always work. in the end its up to you, i know, it sucks!
dont rush anything, do it in your time, gradually try to find other things to do instead of cutting.
some things i do are screaming into a pillow, throwing ice againts a brick wall, writing whatever comes into mind on paper (much swearing in mine!), write in a diary, draw how u feel, go for a run, dance like crazy in your bedroom with your music up loud and SING! seriously, i do this all the time, it does help!
if you end up cutting anyway, dont worry, that WILL happen! it doesnt mean you failed, practise makes perfect!
you can do it hun, im in the midst of it all myself... if you need a friend or just someone to talk to who knows what your going thru and WILL NOT JUDGE YOU! email me! nemofiddler@yahoo.com.au

you can do it!

You are not a bad person. There are a lot of people who do this. Self mutilation is an addiction in some cases. Is it bad for you? Probably, but so is smoking and look at how many people do that! You should talk to someone if you think this is wrong. You said it lets your pain out, well, it sounds to me like you want to talk to someone about this, so go find a person you trust, like a teacher or counselor, and let them help you.

I used to scratch myself to relieve my tension and - trust me - it's not good.

You have to remember that it doesn't make you a bad person in anyway. It's not your fault, but you can help yourself.

Your friend might not realise that it's not as easy to stop as many people think. To start with, buy a stress ball and keep it with you at all times. Whenever you want to cut yourself, squeeze the stress ball instead.

Cutting yourself is almost always a sign of depression or anxiety. You should talk to someone - preferably a counsellor or psychologist. Your school probably has one (if it doesn't, see your doctor or phone childline).

Good luck

This is often a behavior seen in adolesents. You are not a bad person. You just need to learn better coping skills. You also need to learn how to better express your feelings. It is obviousely unhealthy for many reasons. I've seen this a lot in my career. You need to seek counseling for this. There is an underlying problem that you need to deal with. Talk to an adult you trust, like a parent or school guidance counselor. They can point you in the right direction.

hello. no you are not a bad person.
its not wrong i mean, of course there's a reason why you do it.. so you need to find that out.
im glad that you want to stop. some people are so deep in it they dont. try to find other ways to deal with ur stress instead of self harm. even if you manage and succeed in delaying a self harm episode by a few minutes or hours, ITS PROGRESS!! take small steps.. meanwhile you should get some cream for the cuts:) you can do it! email me if you need to talk ok?
please take care..

there is no wrong.this is your coping skill, but hurting yourself in
the long term wont help you deal with what is bugging you.the only ways i know of to help is thearpy or meds or both.most
people who cut get hooked it releases happy chemicals.you
might enlist your friend ask her if you can call whenever you want
to cut.but you need to talk to a pro.if you cant talk to your mom
or dad or some other adult.try your school guidence counselor.
but there is help so look for it,and please dont listen to anyone who says that your bad or trying to get peolpe to feel sorry for
you its a LIE.hope you find this helpful.
