A 14 year old girl, and a 19 year old guy both should wait for a while before considering being together. But when does that 5 year gap become socially acceptable for a couple?

I've heard some say that they should wait until the younger of the two are 18.

Please keep in mind that I do know that I should (and probably have to) wait for a couple of years. I'm just asking when the age difference becomes okay.

I'm 19 and my boyfriend is 26 (he'll be 27 in January) so theres 7 1/2 year difference between us. I think it really depends on the maturity of both of the people..14 and 19 i think are tough ages especially for the 14 year old alot of changes happen then. As to the socially acceptable time..I would def. say when the 14 is out of highschool or in their senior year

You know this relationship in your question is against the law for like the next 3 or 4 years, right? (I'm sure you do...just making sure.)

Most people do not see a 5 year age difference socially unacceptable once both individuals are in their 20's... I mean it is still an age difference, and it can pose problems but our society doesn't really see that as unusual or against social standards.
That age difference falls in the category of "preferences".

To sum it up, it will be a while for you guys. Best of luck though.

the 14 and 19 yr old should definitely wait. There is a point in time where a 5 year difference doesn't mean much in maturity, but in sensitively young ages a even 2 yr gap can be a drastic jump in maturity. Teenage brains are not capable of making sound decisions like adults, so when there is a 19 yr old in question young teens can easily be taken advantage of.

18 and 23 doesn't seem bad. 17 and 22 sounds a little bad, but not as bad as 14 and 19... I'd say 18 and 23 would be when it's the best time.

I wold think about mid 20's. because if the girl is 14 and the guy is 19 hes gonna want sex and shes way too young for that. i guess when both people in the relationship are old enough to do what eachother can do. like they both can have sex without taking any HUGE risks. things like that.

i guess it is due to the media coverage about pedophilia lately, but ive thought of similar things myself. i dont think there is a hard, fast rule to this, but i would consider a 20 yr old and a 25 year old dating as being acceptable.perhaps even 19 and 24. but i cant seem to go any lower than that.

A 5 year age difference is acceptable when both people are no longer minors

After 18, it's nobody's business who you fall in love with. If your man is 50 and you're 23, who is society to judge? What? Are they living your life? Does it affect their lives directly? Who cares? If you love somebody and they love you, that's all that matters. Everyone else who has a problem with it can go where the sun don't shine.
