Begin by thinking about what your favorite colors are, and then think about the time of year you're having your wedding.
Here's how I did it. My favorite color is purple. When my husband and I were considering a summer wedding, I was looking at light purple dresses with yellow as an accent color. We decided on a fall wedding so I chose dark, warm purple. It was Alfred Angelo's "grape" and we accented it with yellow/gold.
It sounds weird, but the colors were perfect for us. I also designed all the bouquets to be a combination of different purples and yellows accented with white. Our florist ended up using our flowers in a contest!
You didn't ask about your wedding dress color, but my advice is that you shouldn't get stuck on bright white. It can be harsh and doesn't look good on a lot of skin tones. Only one of my five friends who've been recently married picked true white as her dress color. You could even build your wedding colors around your dress color.
Bottom line: you can do whatever you want.

It really depends on the season.
During the winter i would choose more deep red or purple with silver or cream in it. Such as Cranberry and Cream. The closer to New Years I would do lots of silver or gold.
During the spring, the lighter colors such as Green and yellow or pink and sky blue.
The summer is the Blue season. More tropical colors. I am getting married in June and my colors are Dark Blue, Light Blue, Silver and Cream.
The fall is for your deep oranges and browns. The rich warm colors, that signal the fall. Fire red and gold.

Champagne is a good color, its very nuetral and looks pleasing to the eyes. When it comes to decoration its also easier to use it since it's a nuetral color and your wedding will look glamourous. Top it with some metallic gold pieces and you are good to go. Another thing, atleast it represents both you and your spouse at something in good harmony.

I think champagne is a really great color for weddings. It's modern, yet classic because it is a neutral. You can pair it with brown if you are having a Fall wedding. Good Luck.

try combining your favorite colours. Or go to a dress store and look at a few dresses you might get inspired. I picked pastel blue and lettuce green (Alfred Angelo colour) it was quite nice. My mom had each bridesmaid in different colours great idea if your bridesmaids are very different in ages weight etc. Basicly anything you want and can actually feel good about making someone else wear have fun!

I may get reported for this, as it is not a true answer...but what color do you want???
Screw the 'harmony' of a picturesque wedding and forget what your parents want....its your day....if your fave color is fuscia or turquoise or whatever than GO FOR IT!!!
Incidentally, I would chose predominantly charcoal grey with blood red and cream accents but that is just me.
I would just look around at dresses, flowers and all the stuff...you'll know what you are meant to have when you see it.

i love deep red. also i went o a wedding once where the bridesmaids all wore these very simple, but elegant black dresses. it was really nice. sounds kinda gothic, it didn't look that way. they were very pretty. i personally don't don't like all the light and pastel colors that most people choose. even in spring. darker colors look more elegant to me. maybe a dark plum. nothing too bright.

It all depends on what you like really. I got married last August and we went for white, black and green. sounds odd but here's how it panned out:
I wore a white dress.
Hubby wore blackwatch tartan (drak green, blue and black) kilt and a black shirt.
Best men wore blackwatch kilts and white shirts
Bridesmaids wore black dresses
My dad wore a black suit with green cravat and cream+green waistcoat
Flowers were white orchids, black and white cala lillies and freen foliage.
I may be biased but it looked fantastic. Was bold but classy, not gaudy. But you have to go for colours that you are going to be happy with. Good luck.
