Yeah, he makes a sound...

...but he just doesn't hear it.. :(
He has to make SOME sort of sound if he lands on the ground, though...

If hes not ready to die he'll make a sound but he wont hear it ,but his body will know that hes making the sound,and if hes ready to die he will let the tree kill him.Simple.
