My grandparents give me gifts for Christmas. I would call them the next day to thank them for the gift, however, if I do not send a follow up "Thank you" card in the mail, my Grandmother especially will go balistic. I thought giving gifts at Christmas time was done out of love and a gift. A way to express a gift with love without any praise. Do you think a "Thank you" card, is necessary even after a call of thanks?

These are not gifts that are expensive, these are gifts that serve no purpose.

Ahhhhhhh needed details for the readers. This is the same grandparents who never thought I was worth a crap because I was adopted. TOUCHE. All they get is a phone call of thanks. Going the extra mile and sending a note of thanks they can kiss my rump

A phone call is even more precious, because they get to hear your voice. A card is not necessary.

Why did you ask? Do you feel something important is missing? Seems like you do.
The written note says you took the time to select a card, to sit down and write a note, to find a stamp and to find a mailbox. It makes the receiver feel good. What's wrong with making someone else feel good?
If we all did what we know is right, and we didn't mind making others feel good about something, and we spent less time coming up with arguments to do negative things, MAYBE our society would head towards the peace we all keep flapping our lips about!
Do the right thing...at all times...in all situations. And if you have a question about it all, quietly and thoughtfully seek out information and knowledge, and then make the decision to be a shining star.

No matter what the gift was a "Thank You" note should always be sent. No one had to buy you a gift but you do have to be respectful and acknowledge the gift!

Listen--drop a few lines and say thanks--what could possibly be the big deal???You will miss them when they are gone. older people put alot of stock in the old fashioned ways of doing things---just do it and smile

I wouldn't say it's necessary but if it makes your old grandma happy then what the heck do it anyway. No what I mean?

You know ... at their age ... it was considered GOOD MANNERS and a showing of Consideration for your elders IF you not just CALLED to say "Thanks" but also sent a letter.
