Any waste disposal system exhibited in public would be considered indecent and undesirable by many. Cleaning nostrils publicly too falls in the same category.

Hi there again :o) Yes I do think that cleaning our your nostrils in public is major disgusting!!! Particularly if it is done in a cafe or restaurant, while people are trying to enjoy their food. Why cant people be more discreet?
Using a tooth pick isnt too bad I suppose. But I wish that people would sort out their body hygiene in private.
Unfortunately there will always be reprobates who do not care about offending others, or maybe they are so dense that they are oblivious to what others think. I wish we could stop people from being so gross, but there would never be a way to enforce, more is the pity! Over the years I have learned to look the other way. But sometimes when someone is really disgusting........you know the ones who hack up their phlegm and spit it out on the pavement? (Yuk sorry).....I cant resist calling over to them and saying something sarcastic like: Awww Perlease that was gross....thanks for that you animal!!!! They usually dont expect a response and look embarrassed.

I fully think nostril cleaning ought to be done out of public view. A fast trip to the loo can't take that much time out of one's busy day.
When using a toothpick, I was taught to cover the operation with a hand up some inches from one's mouth and the hand using the pick. An excuse me is also reasonable and shows good form.
Either is less pleasant to view as watching somone pick knickers out of their bum, thank you.

Both cleaning your nostrils and picking your teeth in public are pretty disgusting. If you use that line of reasoning then where do we draw the line? Is it then, by default, OK to pick your bum or between your toes in public? Nostril exploration (and tooth flossing) are particularly revolting if practiced at the wheel of your car whilst stopped at a traffic signal!

I think the difference between the two is that you use a toothpick to dislodge food from your teeth, and food in and of itself is not gross. Some people are offended by the site of chewed food. To play it safe, it would be better to steal away to the bathroom while using one.
On the other hand, mucus, snots, clots, whatever, are produced by your body, are therefore a waste product, and are generally considered gross. Picking your nose is gross, whether or not you come out with something on your finger or not. Especially gross is holding down one nostril and shooting snot out of the other onto the ground. Always clear your nose in private.

Both are gross---GOSH! I think toothpick use after a meal is UNCOUTH. And KEEPING it in your mouth for sometime afterward looks just as uncouth. Use the toothpick in the restroom, to check your teeth in private and then THROW it away.
Cleaning out nostrils is uncouth also. I get so grossed out seeing people in public rub and scrub their noses---and even if it is with a tissue, it looks so ugly seeing someone grind at their nose. I say go to the restroom. I do it too-----but in a restroom, and then I THROW the tissue away. I wash my hands afterward too!
My opinion.

It depends how you do it, if you blow your nose with a tissue, then its not disgusting, whereas if you pick your nose it's pretty nasty because it's what your told not to do when your about 3. Even worse when you examine your findings or eat them.
I wasn't aware it was worse than using a toothpick.

It depends, if a booger of gooyness comes out, or if something small comes out. If it is the disgusting boogar, then it's worse than a toothpick because food comes out and boogers come out of your nose.

It depends? Are you usings your fingers to clean out your nostrils, or are you using a tissue? If you are using your fingers then yes it is discusting. If you are using a tissue then no it is not.

It's a hygeine thing - there's germs up there, and they are going on your fingers. Using a toothpick, however, does not bring the fingers into contact with germs, only the toothpick.
