Yes, she is too old. Have her fixed and keep her away from anyone so irresponsible as to have an unaltered rottie.

You don't punish a dog by putting him alone in different room they don't understand that. When you bring a new puppy into a home with a dog then you need to make sure the old dog doesn't get ignored and get lots of attentions. Because of course they can get jealous and not only has he got to get used to new puppy but you not being around as much. But this may not be the dogs fault puppies need to learn and the learn lots of lessons from older dogs . We all know puppies have times when they are a bit over the top and may nip or push there luck when they are with there mum and litter mates she will correct any behaviour she see as not acceable this is how they learn and then the puppies also start doing it which each other. It maybe your dog is just doing the same which is normal and you should allow. I would recommend you don't leave them alone with each other which is always a good idea till they areused to each other. I be more worried about leaving them with your boyfriend if he threats to lock your poor dog up for two days. I know i first wouldn't be with someone who could do that let alone leave them alone with any dog for a secone let alone 2 days.

How is her health? Get her checked by a Vet and ask the Vet's opinion especially since she has never been bred. It could be very bad for her.
You will never have another dog exactly like the one you have now. Could it be that you dread the day you won't have her with you anymore? Since breeding her this late in her life could be very risky to her health and the health of any puppies here's a thought on a possible alternative:
I have three rescue dogs and before them I had a German Shepherd Dog. My German Shepherd raised the Aussie/Irish Setter mix and while she is a completely different dog, I can see things she learned from the GSD that are endearing. She provides me with fond memories of the GSD and new memories of her own unique personality. You don't need to have a puppy from her own litter to have qualities that you admire about the Rottie you have now.
You might want to get a new Rottie puppy that some of her personality can rub off on and you can get used to the new one so when she leaves you can look at the newer one as it's own special personality and yet remember the one you have now, through the newer addition, because that is a pup she helped raise and take care of.

The fact that you are concerned enough about the well-being of your rottie to ask this question on this site, shows you love your dog. As everyone has said, 9 really is too old to breed her. But having her fixed is equally hard on her at this age. Be careful of her, if she still goes into heat, so she isn't accidentally bred by some wayward rif-raff from down the alley.

She's an old lady that needs you to be her baby. She needs your love and attention. She also needs to be able to give that affection to you! You make her happy enough to not need to know what "mother hood" is like.

Thank you for the question.

She is WAY too old to have puppies now. No ethical, responsible, reputable, registered breeder would even CONSIDER breeding past 5-6 years old. No dog should ever be bred at 9 years old. That would be like a 70 year old woman having a couple kids. At 9 years old, she SHOULD BE SPAYED. I'm already getting vibes that you want to be another backyard breeder, filling our shelters with un-wanted, un-healthy dogs. No responsible dog owner should have a 9 year old un-spayed female. She should have been spayed at 6 months of age. Please, do NOT BREED YOUR DOG. Not only will there be severe health risks, many things could go wrong with a 9 year old dog giving birth. If she needs a c-section, they won't be able to give her any anesthesia as she is so old, it would be too risky for the vet. Let your PET be a PET. Get her spayed, and enjoy the years to come. I can't stress this enough - DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BREED A 9 YEAR OLD DOG! I'm sure not even a BACKYARD breeder would breed a 9 year old.

Edit: Sorry but you sound as though you are. Considering breeding a 9 year old dog...I can't say enough. It would be the WORST, CRUELEST, most IRRESPONSIBLE, DUMBEST thing to do.

If you truly love her you will not breed her. Yes she is too old for it would be hard on her to have a litter when never before. She doesn't even have her genetic testing. What qualifications does she have?

If you love her you will not become a backyard breeder and breed her. She is special I am 100% sure but no puppy not even one from her will be her. Let her be your special girl and keep her special. Another dog will be another special dog.

As a rottie owner you should protect the breed. There are soo many for adoption and being euthanized. Another reason to to breed.

she is way too old to have puppies she would be like a 60-70 year old woman having a baby. if you don't want to see her go, then lengthen her life and don't breed her. you will run many serious health risks by breeding her now. you should have spayed her long ago if you weren't going to breed her. how irresponsible of you. and how awful for you to think of doing such a thing. if you are wanting a pup from her because of her age, then you should look to the breeder where you got her from, there you should be able to find a pup from her line. geeese.

ok my apologies. but on this site you really need to provide that info. there are many dog lovers on here trying to educate people and it gets very frustrating for how many people are on here and never have their dogs spayed and then are asking well why does she have mammary tumors or is bleeding vaginally....again my apologies.

my answer is still the same. have her spayed. be the best person she's ever known and really take care of her. spay her. shame on those before you who didn't

9 yrs old is like a 63 year old woman. Dont do it
and if you do do something get your dog fixed to prevent cancer of the uterus etc... which occurs often in female dogs that are not fixed
of that age

She's way too old to breed! Having her spayed could extend her life expectancy. Let's not forget that the first dogs to die in the pound are large breed, black or black/brown colored.

At this age for a dog that size, she would be considered a Senior dog. I would NOT recommend it. Pregnancy & giving birth are hard on the body, stressful. It wouldn't be fair to her.
