hi my grandma has a yorkshire terrier named kaiser bill, and i think he might have got esp. she keeps him on her back patio on a chain so's he can still go around, but the chain was too long so she throws it up over one of the lines that go to the house from her alley so kaiser bill can't roam so far. a couple days later she was hosing down the patio (she don't like sweeping), when all of a sudden kaiser bill started barking like crazy. she went inside to get away from the noise, and was going to call my mom about it, and when she picked up the phone someone was already on the line!! and the phone never even rung!! she says that now every time he starts barking his "crazy bark" like she calls it, if she picks up the phone, someone's on there even though she never hears it ring no more!!! how does he know?

can he be psychic maybe?

Contact the phone company to check the wiring.

The dog is grounded through the moist ground and/or the chain. Your phone system uses electricity which spikes up just before the phone starts ringing. If it is not properly installed, or damaged, the line may be leaking current into the ground through the dog.

The dog is getting an electrical shock when the phone rings. It's probably pretty painful, thus the bark.

I love to think of dogs as having some kind of sixth sense but it's probably more likely that the phone may be putting off some kind of ultrasonic high pitch that is not heard by humans. Dogs do hear a lot of things we don't. The phone could be putting this noise off while a call is connecting. There's been stories of dogs doing similar things around a microwave or reacting to something a person does unconsciously but is a pattern of behavior the dog recognizes.

Yes, pets are very intune with their owners. Could also be that he is hearing the phone, but your gramma isn't due to some loss of her hearing. Dogs' sense are very much more sensitive than humans.
