To respond to the other answerer, Iams is a terrible quality food. Avoid it.

Look for ultra premium foods instead. Solid Gold, Merrick, Wysong, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, and Natural Balance (natural BALANCE only) are some examples. My local petsmart carries the Blue Buffalo brand and my local petco carries Natural Balance and Wysong.

Good luck to you.

A 12 year old Shepherd is really getting up there in years. He needs a food that is easier on his digestion. Get a good quality dog food meant for SENIOR dogs. The label will say senior on it very clearly.

Your vet would be the best person to ask.
Judging by his weight and health the vet should be able to give you the best advice. You should ask the vet about home cooked dog food like rice certain vedgies and meat etc...and find one that is appropriate for him. But if you notice that he doesnt have an appetite for any food bring him to a vet asap
