I know they dont have the best reputation, well Ford in general, but im 16 years old and the guy is selling it for $1,000. From what I look at online and in the blue books it is a very good deal. I have not driven it farther than just a few feet yet though because it was parked in a locked private lot. I will be able to drive it tomorrow and check it out. So no real problems with it, is it a good deal you think?

Spend the money to have it looked at by a mechanic. Make sure engine and transmission is ok. Also drive it for a 25 or 50 mile distance with someone following you to check for smoke. Finally park it on a clean parking spot so you can check for leaks. Good luck and proud of you for getting a car. Do not drink and drive, use a cell phone or speed. Be careful and good luck you will get plenty more cars in your life.

1000 dollars is too much money for a 10 year old ford taurus. do yourself a favor, shop around
there are at least 50 cars/trucks to choose from around that price range. Dont go to blue book, or other internet car buying guide, do some legwork visiting used car lots. negotiate properly and you'll get your 1000 dollar car/truck that will last you 'till you go to college.

Beware.......every well seasoned mechanic knows that from the year 94' and thru 2001 ford taurus cars are notorious for transmission problems and even more often than not leading to transmission failure. look it up on fords recall website as well as carfax.com. Be smart, do your research on any car you are interested in buying. the car is good for the money but very questionable for the experince in owning and driving it.

get a newer because those cars will develop problems, my father sold his 98 taurus se 24vengine with 150k leather sunroof and a rear spoiler and the body was immaculate for $1500 and the car ran like new it never had problems since my father bought it at the dealer....also when you buy a used car always ask for recipts on the services that were made to that vehicle

I just bought my son's first car. It's a 1974 ford. Yes it's a real old car however it's made out of REAL METAL. so if he get into a wreck he wont be hurt so bad. Most cars in the 90's were made of plastic.

You should check the service records of the Taurus. Have a second service person look at it.(Yes, get a second opinion.) At 80,000, if the car wasn't bought through a dealership,it should be done at this point. If it was, the service records should let you know.

The finest vehicle I have ever had is the '96 Taurus. Very comfortable for the great American duffel which gets sore and goes to sleep in a foreign car.
