My son mouthed off to his father, and my husband (his father) locked him in the closet as a punishment. Is that a good punishment or should I add something too it?

Yes, locking a child in the closet is dangerous and a safety hazard (if there were ever a fire...) Yes, whipping a child with a belt is abuse, it is still seen as okay to spank your children with your hand, but using objects is generally frowned upon, and in a lot of states it's illegal. If you were hit to the point of having bruises or injuries, it was most definitely abuse. And yes, the last two things are horrible and most definitely abuse as well. I am sorry to say, but anyone who hurts a child is NOT a good person. I guess it's good that you at least aren't dwelling on what happened to you and harboring a lot of resentment. BUT, don't think for a minute that what your parents did was remotely okay and end up treating your own children like that. Stop the cycle of abuse!

No, it isn't a good punishment for any age. Maybe you both need some parenting skills - try a counselor.
And if you won't do that try taking away his car keys for a week, no video games for a week, no tv, no music, no going out,
But for God's sake quit locking anyone in a closet. I think that is abuse no matter what age he is.

Who is 17 the dad or the son?

Well if it is the son that is 17 then that is not even a scary punishment sounds kind of dumb for a 17 year old.

This sounds really unusual to me. I think something longer-lasting would be better, such as removing a privilege. If your son goes to school and says that his computer privileges were removed that will sound fine, but if he says his father locked him in a closet you could find a social worker at the door.

Well considering you added the comment on the end "is that a good punishment or should I add something too it" leads me to believe that you are a little troll looking for attention.....

Umm me, that's umm horrible treatment. I hope you are kidding because this literally almost brings tears to my eyes. You should never lock anyone in the closet. How would you feel if your husband did this to you?

I'm not sure I agree with your husband's choice of punishment but I do know you shouldn't add anymore to it.
