I'm not being rude...I just don't understand, honestly. I should really watch CNN more often, but I don't. This is the next best thing.

Help.

OIL- OIL --- OIL, When will people believe the only reason we are in Iraq is for the oil. Bush had plans two years before we invaded Iraq to do just that and the reason was for the oil. Wake up America and quit believing our so called leaders and the press, just see what is going on and use your brains.

We are in Iraq and Afganistan fighting the war on terror. We are and should be in many more places around the world fighting a war against a people bent on killing us, and freedom everywhere. People are brainwashed by a biased media that spins death and destruction and suppresses the good things going on in Iraq. Like a prospering economy, thousands of new schools, etc. If the media reported the daily rapes and murders in Chicago and NY alone, they would surpass the deaths in Iraq. People do not think for themselves anymore. Most people tend to quickly forget what happened here on 9/11...We live in a generation that lacks wisdom and does not understand sacrafice...it is a generation that has turned their back on God altogether. This generation must be constantly entertained and has a short attention span. I think George Bush has been a real leader who thankfully is not swayed by public opinion, like a Bill Clinton would be.

We are still in Iraq because the Iraqis are not able to secure their country as of yet. That is why our soldiers are there. If we get out right now, their country will fall into the hands of terrorists. I know you are saying "what does this have to do with me?". It has a lot to do with you. If we don't help Iraq now, we risk the chance of leaving terrorists in control of the country causing the US to be in fear of terror attacks like we experienced in 2001. Of course there is the issue of oil. Even though most people don't like it, the US gets a lot of its oil supplies from that country. We also have to secure that. Basically, we went in there and tore everything up trying to find a rat, and now we're having to clean up the mess we made.

It appears to me that most, they say 70% of the American public currently wants us to pull the troops out of Iraq. I think the reason Bush is not doing so, is possibly that he does not want to admit defeat. His legacy will be the Iraq war, whether it is a failure or victory, so he does not want it to be a failure. If he can keep the war going two more years then he can pass the war on to the next President....

Edit: Several posters mentioned we're in Iraq because of 9/11...I guess they didn't read or hear that even the Bush administration has admitted that Iraq and Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11. The 9/11 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia/Bin Laden...so wrong country and leader....

Nobody could ever forget 9/11, at least I haven't and I'd like to see the actual 9/11 terrorist, Bin Laden, get caught, What ever happened to him?, but I guess we're too busy/distracted now with Iraq....

There are a lot of reason they are there. The US Gov. say's this.
But when Japan attack pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th 1941 we finished that war in less then 2 years. Yes so why then are we still in Iraq? the Gov. stands to make a lot of $ there, for them selfs. I would have taken if I was the Pres. of this country. I would have taken all that mess from 9-11 and droped it all on them from 40,000' and then blew them all up. “Show them the BLACK FLAG” General Jackson
Also stated in the Bible if you wipe out your foe (all) of them then they wont rise up to strick back at you.
We can't even take care of our own in need here, so how is it we can there? Suppose you were the ruler of a 3rd world country in need to become compitive in the world market. What a better way to go about it then to start a war with the US, why heck we come in and wipe it out , rebuild, or offer you all kinds of money to get you up to our leavel, and who wins? the folks in our Gov. I could go on...

For the same reasons USA has troops in South Korea, Germany, England, Italy, Phillipines, Japan, Diego Garcia, Gitmo, and aircraft carriers throughout the world, we need to project and protect our interests. It is in our interests to stablized the Middle East. Ending the evil regime of Saddam in Iraq and supporting Israel helps promote our interests. Its selfish, but that's life.

If you don't have time to watch CNN...sign-up for NY Times on-line. The service is very informative with international news if you don't have a descent news paper in your city. I have two theories why we are still in Iraq, first because it originally was a smoke and mirror to take the focus off of Bid Laden. 2nd we are there because of the oil.

the only reason for still being there is that Republicans have made a stand. They will not leave Iraq under any situation, NO MATTER HOW MANY MILITARY DIE THERE. We will have to loose many more with the escalation (NOT SURGE) over the next 2 years, before the Dems will be able to withdraw.
In other words, Bush is using the lives of American military for his party's own political spin.

The conventional wisdom is that if we pull out, it will be bad for the innocent Iraqi's who will be subjected to brutal treatement by insurgents/warlords etc.

So, we stay until Iraq can effectively manage its security.

This is a lost cause, IMHO and I feel we should pull all troops out now and let Iraqis deal with it.

We, The United states, eliminated their government. It is now our duty and obligation to help Iraq regain control through support. The more troops there the faster the training can be completed. This is the way I see it. How would the world view us if we went in there destroyed and just left? Think that would be a positive view or outcome? No, we would be condemned worse than we are now! Like Powell said, you broke it, you own it!
