not that i think it's right but usually men are expected to pay for the date ... personally, i think whoever does the asking and chooses the place to go should be prepared to pay but it's only fair that the other person should offer to split the bill.

I think it is pretty expected for men to pay if they are the asker but if they are the askee then they should go out and when the check comes offer even though she should pay.
P.S. we were taught that if you don't at lease make an effort of offer then you are rude and probably won't get a second date or be considered as considerate.

on a first date i think the man should pay for all of the bill because it's just a gentleman thing to do. especially if he asks the girl out! actually the first couple of dates should be paid for by the guy. unless the girl brings it up. If the guy doesn't pay then the girl will not be impressed unless shes rich. DON'T FORGET TO OPEN DOORS FOR HER ALSO!Good Luck!

I think it depends on whether the man asked the lady out. if he did then yes he should pay unless the 2 of you have come to some sort of agreement prior to the date itself. Same goes for if the lady asked the man out. If its just a friendship date then I think both of them should pay half.I dont think the man should always have to pay. It should be a 2 way street.

it depends on the date...I for one always thought it was chivalrous to pay..but after the first few dates in these times if the lady has finances and wants to pay, maybe let her ?

if he asked her out, then he should pay. if it was mutual, then it should be split. if both you and your date are unsure, then the woman should at least offer to pay. then the guy will decide if he would like to take her up on her offer or pay for it all.

It's one of those rules that one learns early on in life. There's no real reason other than'Just Because' and it shows that you respect her. So, pay for it all unless she offers.

after a few dates and if she sets it up and she wants to (her idea) then she can pay.
