I know the purist will call this blasphemy, but today I went to a local restaurant in town which is known for serving very good tea. The way they make it is they take ground up tea leaves, place it in a coffee maker and pour hot water at the top of the machine. Within 3 minutes, they have a great pot of tea.

Have others here tried this?

I make tea like that every day. When I don't use ground and a filter, I just use bags, let it run, then put the bags in the pot to let it simmer and sit, so that I get the strongest (Green) tea I can, for the maximum health benefits.
But the main thing about coffee makers is as little known today as when I first bused tables in Camp Zama Officer's Club in 1971: You must reach up to where the water comes out to the filter cup and wipe it daily, for the coffee oils accumulate, and make your product bitter. I've been in the best of restaurants, and had to show them this.

I have done this before with green tea and it has always turned out fine. Green tea steeps for less time and at a lower temperature than your standard orange pekoe and other types of black teas, though. For those varieties, I'd recommend placing the tea bags in the carafe of the coffee pot instead of the filter basket where you'd normally place your coffee grounds. You can always search for tea steeping times and temperatures online.

yes I do it. it is a very easy way to make brewed tea in quanity and also a $10 coffee maker is cheaper to make ice tea with.
brew strong tea and pour over ice cubes.
just makesure to clean the pot out. nothing is as bad as tea with a taste of coffee. ( I hate coffee )

i have never done it, as i prefer to see my tea leaves unfurl in my cup but i known some people likes to ground up tea leaves....

but dont suggest you to use the same pot as your coffee as some tea might absorb the coffee aroma...go get this Smart Teapot from Teacuppa.com

i use this for brewing tea...very convinient!

Of course this works that's how they make great iced tea. Pour hot water and it makes the tea and you add ice.

Whenever I order tea at a shop, I ask them to run it thru the espresso steamer. It makes a perfect brew, cuz you never over steep ("stew") the leaves, and you get perfect and consistent results every time, where ever you go.

It is ok. I do not know which country you are from but I know Tim Hortons use the same sort of system to make steeped tea.
