I have an HDTV and was thinking about buying the HD DVD add on for the 360. Many of my movies do not say HD DVD on them and some retailers keep telling me the movies will not look any better unless the movie says HD DVD? I would still think the movies will look better than without buying this add on even if the movie does not say HD DVD? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Love my Xbox 360!

I am really surprised that the retailers is right on this. You can see HD if and only if the dvd is mark HD-DVD, regular dvd doesn't look any different on the dvd add-on. Why ? Because regular dvds are mastered at a resolution of 480p and HD-DVDs are mastered at 1080p. So, you see it doesn't matter how good the dvd add-on is, it can't make normal dvd look any better because the dvd is still 480p. HD-DVD, on the other hand will look great on a big HDTV because of the higher resolution.

The retailers are correct. It is just like having an HD TV but not having an HD signal. With out that HD signal, I don't care how good your HD TV might be, the image will not be displayed in HD. The HD DVD player can only display what is on the disc so if the DVD is a regular DVD, then that is all it will display.

Keep in mind that the X360 HDDVD addon has a scaler that will upscale standard DVDs to high def resolutions....but remember that you won't gain any of the detail of a HD DVD...
