We got a new cat about three months ago. And hes really sweet, and gets along with our other cat. But he doesnt like my mom. When i leave to go somewhere, he sits by the door and meows, even if its just the bathroom, or the basement. If im out for more then 2 hours, when i get home he follows me around the house and meows until i pick him up and pet him. but he doesnt seem to want any attention from my mom. why is that?

Cats, dogs, birds, etc., like most humans and most other animals, they have unique personalities. If you think about it, sometimes we just don't like someone. There doesn't always have to be a reason or an answer as to why. We just don't like them.

For example, I gave my son a kitten several years ago... To this day, the cat will growl, hiss, spit and attack my foot or leg when I come into it's territory. She despises me and I have no clue as to why. She's even jumped on my back and attacked me once!!! I've never been mean to her or done anything that should have ever caused her to be like that towards me. She's the only animal in my entire life that I just absolutely cannot get along with. We simply have unreconcilable differences.

So, even for those who have a knack with animals, sometimes there's going to be a personality conflict that cannot be resolved.

Some cats bond with only one person. This is a breed trait with Maine Coon cats. My coonie ignores everyone else in the world but me, and follows me all over the house no matter what I do. I have read a lot about coonies that sit by the bathroom door or insist on going in with you. They are also very vocal. Cats can make about 70 sounds and you can get them to "talk" back to you. They recognize a lot more words than we give credit for.
If you are gone for several days, your cat will probably go to your mom- mine goes to the kids and hangs out if I'm gone. If your mom ignores him he will be more llikely to seek her attention when you are away.

My cat is the same way with me and my dad. She used to hate my dad.. Everytime he tried to touch her she'd snap at him and bite him so hard it left scars/bled for days. Eventually he started giving the cat tuna fish, feeding her on ocassion, giving her cat treats in her bowl. Eventually she started liking him and has now gotten to the point of sleeping next to him on the sofa while I'm at work.
