I was wondering how long I should wait until I have a cigarette. I am getting very impatient as I usually smoke about half a pack a day. I am still in a lot of pain, and cannot eat any kind of solid foods yet...dos anyone have any suggestions on how I can avoid the craving? grrr...my mom sitting beside me lighting up a cigarette isn't helping either.

Actually smoking in the first couple of days after an extraction is pretty bad, if not the worse thing u could do after an extraction. The problem is that any kind of drastic movement of air like sipping a cigarette can cause the clot of blood to come out. This causes the tip of your nerve inside your bone socket to be set free. If u can imagine how much a loose nerve will hurt, just triple it and u will understand the kind of pain it is. Take good care of it for a couple more days, use the patch, and you will be fine .... Hope this helps,

Take this as a hint- quit!! I had mine removed on tuesday, and my oral surgeon said I shouldnt even be AROUND smoke, as it can hinder your healing process!! get the patch or some other method.. and while your add it save your moms life and get her to quit!

get the patch!!!
you cannot smoke for awhile!
ask your dentist.

sorry, but smoking will slow down healing time.
tell your rude mom to at least go in the other room!!!

this could be a good time to quit?

now is a good time to quit. dont drink though straws and dont smoke. it causes dry socket where your blood clot falls out and it is very painsul. its the sucking motion that does it. also, smoking decreases healing time....
