The worms in puppies poop are very hard for humans to catch..Just wash hands before eating...the worms at the stage that they shed, are not contageous, but only the eggs being ingested.

I have raised MANY puppies with a houseful of kids, and none of us have ever gotten worms from the pups, and I don't know anyone, of the many breeders I know, who have ever gotten worms from their dogs..

Just get the puppy de-wormed, and problem solved..It doesn't cost much..
Nearly all puppies are born with roundworms, and people don't get them, unless they practice VERY poor hygiene.

the only cases of roundworms in children that i have heard of, is when the puppy poops in a sandbox, and children play in the sandbox, and then eat without handwashing..
Now, the female dog can have a treatment of Revolution, and pups will be born without roundworms, but it is a new product, and most pups are still born with worms.

Tell your kids that this is a good reason to always wash hands before eating.

The only way to solve the problem is to get rid of the worms. If you want to have your pup dewormed properly, make an appointment with a vet and get the doctor's opinion on how to eradicate the infestation. There's many different kinds of worms and the vet will know precisely how to dose the dog.

Clean up the mess, make sure everyone washes their hands after playing with the puppy, and bring the pup into the vet Monday for a deworming treatment. Bring a fecal sample along as well, so they can be sure they treat for the right worms.

I don't recommend getting over the counter wormers, they are ineffective at best.

if there are worms in the feces you should get to the vet soon to prevent the dog from developing anemia. worms in the stool are only seen in an advanced case of probably roundworm or tapeworm. have him dewormed and wash your hands immediately after handling the dog. and don't let him lick your face because you can get worms from that too.

Do not touch the feces with your bare hands. Caution and treatment. Hook worm intestinal parasite can be especially harmful to humans. Don't freak out, do something for your poor puppy.

PS If you do not know the type of worm, do not take chances. I know a tapeworm, round worm when I see them, but hook worms are another story. Their larva can penetrate human skin. The larva would be hard to spot. Other worms can be ingested, and kids manage to do that every year, some how.

If you describe the worms, I can tell you what type they are. It sounds like roundworms if they look like actual worms (like spaghetti noodles). Tapeworms shed segments that look like rice. It really isn't that common to get worms from dogs. It is possible, but rare. You have to injest the worms/larvae to get them. Wash your hands after you play with the dog and be especially careful around feces. Just make sure your kids aren't putting their hands in their mouths after handling the dog. Take your dog and a fecal sample to the vet on Monday morning to get it dewormed.

He needs to be seen by the vet to get a dewormer.

Everytime he poos, you must clean it up. Eggs are microscopic. You will never see the eggs. If you want to kill any that may be left behind, dump bleach water over the area the dog defecated. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly and don't allow the dog to lick your face or hands.

TO MONICA S (above me). There is a thing called zoonotic conditions. Please look it up. This means that there are parasites that people CAN and DO get from animals. Particulary hookworms, roundwrms, tapeworm, giardia, trichinellosis, toxoplasmosis and more. OH! Let's not forget the non-internal zoonosis: fleas, scabies, ringworm, rabies, cat scratch fever, etc. http://www.science.org.au/sats2004/images/ryan1.jpg

your kids arent going to get the worms your pup has! if you are seeing worms in the stool that look like grains of rice then those are tapeworms, caused by swallowing an infected flea. Those worms are species specific, meaning you cant get them! They are easily treated with droncit or drontal by your vet. If it was long and curly then it was a roundworm (you rarely see these in stool though) these are also species specific and can be treated with panacur at the vet. Dont worry, you guys are safe! I would treat your pup for fleas though!

go to the pet shop and ask for dewormer pills, feed the pup after a meal. It will eliminate the worms, its common on dogs.

P.s: humans will not get the worms into their bodies.

Well no one just catch them unless they eat them. Even then I'm not sure they will live in our digestive system (horse worms can't live in goats or cattle). Just treat the puppy with a dewormer-try to get a tape AND roundworm dewormer-most are just for round worms.
