My wife left her dog in the car with the windows part way down and some lady asked her why she brought a mean dog to town. She tried to stick her hand in the window (with a toddler) and he growled at them. She said he whined when he saw the kid. He loves kids, but is very protective of the truck. How would you have reacted?

I would say..."Excuse me ma'am, but don't you know that you should never try to touch a dog you do not know? You are setting a dangerous example for your child." Then I would just turn around and walk away from the *****.

I would have told the lady that is a very stupid thing to do since she had no idea how the dog would react and should have respected the dog's sense of territory. obviously if the dog growled then he felt uncomfterable and had every right to since he was in his personal space and she invaded it. i proably would have told the lady off or warned her to use her brain before approaching unfamilar dogs without their owners around.

Thats pretty funny, cause my uncle had almost the same thing happen, he left the top part of his truck cap open, and a lady's 5 year old reached in and he bit his hand and she tried to get a lawyer and take him to court, but she cane to the truck, but i would have said it was he fault and is a free country and you can take your dog wherever you want!!!

If someone wants to reach inside a car without owners consent about touching the dog... its their fault if they get hurt. Dog's can be protective of their "territory" and I would definitely have slapped that lady (metaphorically!) for being stupid like that. The neighbor's chihuahua can be happy as can be in his yard until someone unknown tries to reach in... Same applies to the car. What if it had been someone trying to rob from your car? That's a good response from poochy!

Just say "Oh I'm sorry I believe he or she is being anti-social today" that usually works for me . you know i carry my chi around with me and you would not believe how many people try to pet him without permission. I never pet someone else's dog unless the dog comes up to me . I petted a rottie in a pet smart one time but that was because the dog came up to me and sniffed my rear like saying hello . I petted him and told him what a good boy he was for being so social. but I usually use the phrase i used above and that usually works . not rude but gets the point across. good luck.

This happens to me all the time and NOTHING makes me madder.
It's not like I leave my shepherds in the car unattended for long periods but I can't take them inside a gas station with me while I wait in line to pay.So I leave windows down just far enough they can't get their big heads thru and in summer months still leave car running with the air conditioning on.But crack windows just in case there may be an exhaust leak I'm unaware of.
I get in line and it never fails -Some fool will stick their arm inside to pet them and jerk back as fast as possible and then wait around to yell at me for hauling dangerous animals that will harm the public.MY VICIOUS DOGS SHOULD BE LEFT AT HOME WHERE THEY CAN"T HURT ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not just children who do this either.Full grown men of all ages and women as well as children have been told by me that they have no right to put any part6 of their body into my car without an invitation from me.That's a gross lack of respect for others property on their part and they should be ashamed of themselves.NOWHERE on my car is there a sign that says "PETTING ZOO" or "Please pet the dogs"and as far as I'm concerned if someone is ignorant enough to try to dominate 2 german shepherds they don't know then they deserve to get bitten. What they've done by trying to force themselves on MY pets is equal to molestation of a child in my opinion and they need to back up and rethink what they're saying before getting in my face cos the dogs are very protective of their mommy.
I don't much care how much bigger someone is than I am either.they get a piece of my mind.
I always go to the station that's a few blocks from my house.Everyone knows me and my dogs well on all 3 shifts as my car does'nt roll without the dogs inside unless I go to work or to the store.
One time an idiot called the police on me for yelling at them demanding I be arrested for attacking him verbally after my dogs tried to bite him.
Obviously this guy was looking for a reason to sue someone and saw an easy opportunity not realizing that there are cameras EVERYWHERE and that I know all the cops here.
Chief of Police responded to the call.Walked up and asked me what the problem was so I told him.Guy was really upset that I was questioned before he got to tell his side since he called. One attendant of the station happens to be on the city council and yelled out that he'd rewind the tape if anyone wanted to see it cos the guy was in the wrong to begin with.
Poor fella bit off more than he could chew that day cos I not only chewed his butt but he got it from the police chief aas well as laughed at by all the other customers and rudely waited on when he went to pay for his purchase.
I've also had alot of fools who'll stand a few feet from my car and just look at my dogs while they're snapping and growling and pawing at the windows. These people get chewed out too as all they are doing is challenging my dogs and are going to cause them to break a window to get out and protect themselves.

No because I do not leave the window open.. Plenty of air in the car already.. If it's hot then the dog shouldn't be left in the car..

I would have told her what I tell every one that wants to pet my dog when he is in the truck. "THAT IS HIS TERRITORY AND HE IS PROTECTING IT!!!" My dog is the most loving dog but you don't get near "his" truck when I'm not around. If she was stupid enough to put her hand in the car with the dog she deserved to get bit, barked at, or growled at.

Hummmm, wonder what a cop would say? Ma'ma the dog is in his own vehicle and was protecting his domain......Gee, wonder why he growled?
That is a lady that would stick her hand in a garbage disposal to see if it was working!

And it is someone like that who's child gets bit by a dog and she wonders why. What was she thinking! Yeah! Let's teach this child to reach for strange dogs when the owner isn't around! Idiot!

The worse thing is, if the dog bit her, she would have tried to come after you! For her own ignorance and stupidity, your dog would have suffered!!!
