aspartame is what's in Equal and I haven't ever heard of it causing cancer. The stuff in Sweet-n-Low (saccarin) has been proven to cause cancer though.

So they say... But I think it depends more on how much you eat/drink. The quantities of aspartame used in soft drinks are very small, not nearly enough to cause anything. If you want to be sure, avoid those products that contain aspartame.
From what I've heard, xylitol is better |(ten times as sweet as sugar and has no effect on your teeth), but more expensive.
As for aspartame turning into formaldehyde... really, some urban myths are overdoing it... no way... if it did contain that, my stomach would've long been embalmed (I drink loads of Coke Light). That's just nonsense, don't believe it. What it does turn into is a laxative if you drink gallons of the thing and a substitute for thyroidian hormones - it is thought they make you thyroid produce less hormones - again, not proven and in the case of ingesting enormous quantities of the substance.

Aspartame sweentener is great for getting rid of ants. Pour a packet in the ants trail with abit of apple juice and watch ants disappear with in 24hours. Cheap insecticide! Aspartame used in diet drinks and sports drinks are toxic concoction! so why drink it! It caused cardiac arrest.

not cancer causing, but it turns to formaldehyde in the body. There's not a direct link, but there was a study of soldiers during the Gulf war who had high levels of formaldehyde in their systems. It was thought that it came from the large amount of drinks that consumed, and they were sweetened with aspertame. Also, there's a large controversy with Splenda - 5 current lawsuits, because the sucralose turns to ammonia in the body. They say it's passed before it turns to ammonia, but there's a lot to be proven...stick with plain ole sugar or stevia which is a plant based sweetener and not chemically created.

I keep hearing this, but don't know.
I do know that I am so glad I dropped the pink stuff and now only consume REAL SUGAR to a limit tho.
It's healthier, cheaper, and less litter.
organic sugar, or actually brown sugar <(not expensive)

As of right now it is only rumored to. It has not been proven.

In fact there are many studies that say it does not.
