When you marry someone two become one... this doesn't mean you forsake anything except adultery. Who told you that anyway? Sounds like someone might be trying to control you... but when it comes to the Bible, Mairrage is a blood covenant between a man and a woman that takes place when a hymen is broken and the man takes the woman's virginity... so, sounds like you should maybe take a stroll into the Old Testiment, and maybe realise that we are still sappose to follow certain rules, but are still no longer in the stone age. No where does the Bible tell you to forsake anyone. We are sapposed to be kind, hospitable, neighborly, and honorable to hour parents, family, the weak, and anyone in need of a caring hand.

The model for marriage is Adam and Eve. God made two people, joined then together and told them to be fruitful.

In Genesis 2:24, God says, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

Later, adultery is defined as being illegal according to Gods rules. Exodus 20:14. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

There are many other examples in the bible. It's all over the place and it's good common sense. It builds love and trust and is the basis for an organized civilization.

I hope that you find something helpful here!

The forsaking is meant that you will forsake past loves or those that will create obstacles between you are your new husband. He will be first in your life and you in his...There are scriptures that point to a man and women marrying and what is needed. But what you hear the preacher ask you isnt in the Bible.

Yes, it's in the Bible. You'll have to pay attention to the singular forms of the nouns. Wife, not wives, husband, not husbands. 1Corinthians 7 is below.

Plus, Exodus 20 gives us the Ten Commandments..."Thou shalt not commit adultery."

+It is found in Ephesians chapter 5:22 through 33 and the vs. you ask about is actually vs. 31. It does not mean you break off relationship with others but that the spouse comes first,always,2nd only to God and then yourself. v s. 28 is a good one too.

Matthew 19:3-6;
"And some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him, saying "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause at all?" And He answered and said " Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh? Consequently, they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." "
