It sounds wierd, but my cat loves playing in water. He's about 7 months old and he routinely dumps his water dish from playing with it. I've tried getting him a weighted down dish that he couldn't dump, but he played in the water until it was all gone. He also likes playing with the toilet water. Please help! I'm not sure what to do and am worried about him getting dehydrated. On top of that, it's annoying because he makes a mess and he often keeps me up at night the noises of his playing in the dish. Thanks!!

A lot of cats like to do this. One of mine like to scoop up his dry food and drop it in the water bowl. He then tries to fish it out. One of the others just likes to dabble in the bowl, shake her wet paw, then do it again.

I refill the bowl throughout the day to make sure that they always have fresh, clean water. I have a heavy ceramic bowl that they cannot actually tip over.

Sometimes, I put an icecube or two in there, just to amuse them :-))

One of them likes to scoop up "pawfuls" of dry food, scatter it over the kitchen floor, then chase the bits around before eating them, one by one.

ALL of my cats consider the toilet to be the "kitty wading pool". When it gets on my nerves, I put the lid down.

They love to lay in the sink, and lick the bathtub after it drains.

That's just the way cats are.

I don't really think you're going to get yours to stop....

My fiance's cat did the same thing. Bowl after bowl, we just couldn't get him to quick knocking it over or batting it all out! One thing with cats is that they can't really see the water unless it's moving, so some cats test to see if there's anything there before they shove their nose in. But if he's actually playing with it...here's what you should do.

Instead of getting him cat bowls, get him a dog food or water dish. Something a little bigger than him with high walls. He won't be able to knock it over due to size, and the high walls might keep him from splashing it all out. It worked for my fiance's cat. About him wanting to play with the water though...not sure how to fix that. You may want to move his bowl so he doesn't bother you at night, or maybe discipline him so that he learns not to do it at night.

About the toilet, there is 'cat off' sprays you could use. Or yet again, stress to him that you don't want him playing in that kind of bowl.

The first thing to do is put a towel under the water bowl. The next thing is when he starts playing in the water pick it up,dont let him make a mess your in charge! Then buy a high water bowl one that is off the ground. They have some in stores its when there is a water and food bowl inside a little tray!If not then just wait till he grows out of the kitty stage!Good luck!

Get a plastic food and water dish, and super-glue it to a board, it'll be impossible to knock over.

Keep the toilet lid closed when your cat might get in it.

My little girl cat does this too. She drops her toys in the water and cries for me to get them out. I don't know what to do to stop her, because I haven't tried - she look really cute when she does it, but you should make sure the toilet is closed becuase I have friend whose little kitty drowned in the toilet. It was really sad.

that's so cute, haha. well my cat plays with toilet water too! he gets distracted by running water. i suggest you get a large water bottle/feeder for your cat so he doesn't make a mess with the bowl and won't be playing in it. make sure he gets used to it. you could substitute his tendency for playing in water in the bathtub or the sink maybe? at least it wouldnt make such a mess. hope that helps! (:

My cat does that too. As soon as im finished taking a shower, she jumps in the bath, she likes to put her paw in the toilet when it flushes, and she always put her paw in her drinking bowl, but when i splash a little water on her she runs lol. and when i try to bathe her she becomes vicious. I dont unerstand them but i love them.
