You're not alone.I have the same problem as you except I believe mine are caused by migraines, which I just developed in the last month.I've been dealing w/ the migraines for this whole month and have helped alleviate them through vitamins and meds, but have developed blurred/double vision for the last 5 days along w/gray splotches in my field of vision and wavy-like patterns when I look at things. From doing research I've come to find out its called "migraine with aura" or opthalmoplegic migraine (eye migraine). This is preventing me from driving which is really screwing up my life right now.

Not sure if this could be what youre having(since you didnt mention anything about headaches) but you can get these symptoms w/o the accompanying headaches(just found this out today).

I suggest definately going to get your eyes checked out by an opthamologist...I'm going in a few days too. Also started to see a neurologist which could be helpful to you as well.

Your problem could be minor and fixed with a simple pair of glasses but at the same time it could be something more serious so please get it checked out.Hopefully you fix this problem soon.

Best of luck to you!

First of all you don't have detached retinas. If you did, your symptoms would be of NOT being able to see out of the eye with the detachment. And, if you don't mind, please send me a copy of your fundus photos and your scans. I'll have some colleagues go through this with me and we'll see if we can find an issue. From the sound of your symptoms, it appears that you have an issue with a lateral muscle, most likely the left lateral rectus. This is innervated by the 6th nerve on that side. When the VI nerve leaves the base of the brain, it passes forwards over the petrous portion of the temporal bone. It then goes forward towards the orbit where it is near other nerves V, III, IV. But you have no symptoms of those nerves. You have symptoms of gaze and diplopia, or double vision. In Gradenigo's Syndrome (that's really old rusty info in this brain of mine) when people have a chronic ear infection and also get mastoiditis, the temporal bone is inflamed and they present with a 6th nerve palsy on that side along with possible hearing issues or sounds or tinnitus or ringing. Saw a man going to have a Carotid Angiogram once. After listening to his symptoms (like yours), Gradinigos was diagnosed, the angiogram was cancelled, an ENT consult was obtained, antibiotics were Rx'd and he did ok. So I'm wondering, if you do have middle ear issues (dizzy, or diplopia on vertical stance, none laying down) which are SCREAMING MIDDLE EAR, which is right next door to the 6th, perhaps there's a vascular lesion there or an abscess or a diffuseinflammationn of the periostium of the bone that is causing this intermittent 6th. They do find a decrease in the scan of that bone indicating either inflammation or fibrosis or ???. Perhaps when you stand there some sort of shift in blood flow or shift in tissue traction that is pulling or tugging on that portion of the VI nerve. A course of antibiotics would solve the issue and if you were here, you'd have been Rx that a LONG time ago. There's some food for thought for you. See if you can get me your scans and fundus photos though I'd bet a LOT that those pictures of your fundi are normal. You're welcome to write any time.

Go see your optomatrist & get a referral to an opthamologist & find out. I have double vision caused by MS but I'm sure that's not the only thing that can cause double vision. All I know is and I'm sure you know this too is something is causing you to have double vision so go & find out what! I know sometimes it's hard because we're scared of what we'll be told but by putting off seeing a Dr. you cld be causing more damage to your vision. Good Luck!

Have you gone to a doctor? If not, you need to. There are different causes and only a doctor can tel you after examining your eyes.Until you get to the doctor, you can put a patch over one eye. That should help the double vision while it's covered.
