Why are Americans crazy about beer? Socializing aside, what aspect is the attraction? The taste? The carbonation? The alcohol? I tried it and it tasted like crap (very bitter). Why the obsession?

Those who say "buzz" and "makes you feel good", elaborate on that. What do you mean?

B/C everyone has a bit of 'peer pressure' to contend with. But, I think they all secretively think that it tastes like pee. How could they like it???? I agree! I think it is all about who can drink more, and be the bigger man (or woman). Kind of like the movie..."How to Eat Fried Worms!" Why else would you do that....only to impress your friends, right?

it's not just Americans- what about the English, the Irish, the Dutch, and of course, the Germans.
I am not a huge fan of beer, but good beer can taste very good, give you a light buzz (buzz- you're just tipsy, but not drunk), you can have a couple without getting wasted. However, I stay away from most American beers, since they taste very diluted and bitter. Try a full-bodied German, Dutch, Irish, or Belgian beer, or a light Weissbier, and you'll see what all the hype is about.

Bad beer does taste like urination, but good beer is where it's at. Beer is good for several reasons. People will choose their own reasons. For me, I like a good beer. The country of origin makes little difference. I like the tingle from lagers and the chocolaty aroma from a stout. Beer is loved everywhere, not just the United States. Some look at beer as bad, but it isn't. It's liquid bread! It's actually a healthier beverage than dairy milk.

I think with the major crackdown on drinking and driving in the US that many people think that drinking beer which has a lower alcohol content than wine or liquor that they have a better chance of getting away with driving drunk. This is only an idea though. Also a case of beer costs less than a bottle of regular liquor so I am sure cost might have something to do with it.

uhmm...hello. its not just americans. all over the world people are like that. it just seems that other countries, take Europe for example, have a great system. Its technically illegal to drink under 16, usually, but people do and its not really enforced. America doesnt have a good System for Alcahol.

But America is not the only country with an "obsession"

Not all Americans are obsessed with beer. They can be obsessed with chocolate, tv, smoking. sex, etc. I better stop before they ban all chocolate, tv, and sex. and the etc. since they already banned the smoking. Thanks for bringing this question to attention tho, that way the "Special Interest" groups have more to ban.
