I've had Sox for about 5 years and i adopted Lola, a kitten, a few months ago and they will not get along at all! Lola tries to play but Sox just hisses and growls not only at her but at everybody in the house. Is there any possible way to make them got along and make Sox stop being so mean to everyone, or is it too late?

give the 2 cats time. in time they will get along b/c we have 2 cats of our own & they did the same thing that they didn't get along but as months went on they started getting along with each other. & yet we have 1 male cat & the other a female. & now they play with each other most of the time.

Sox will adjust eventually, but will prolly never particularly like having the kitten around. Cats are way too territorial to accept a new cat into a house they've lived in so long. We had Garfield for three years before we brought Bobbo home, and now we've had him for almost 6 and they're only just starting to tolerate eachother, which is prolly a result of two recent additions, Mr. Chip and Pooter. In fact, I grew up thinking cats simply didn't get along with other cats, but Chip and Pooter play like siblings.

You could try peace offerings to Sox *ie, catnip/treats*

Cats can take years to adjust to new situations. Part of the problem is introducing them the wrong way. For instance, letting the little rascal run around the big cat's territory like its not a problem. They need to have their own territories. My mom's cat was completely feral when I brought my kitten to the house... Still acts that way when she comes to visit on the weekends, but they can be secret buddies under the bed. We've tried punishing the older cat for being ridiculous/mean and that hasn't worked. It just takes time. As long as theres no bloodshed... I've heard it could take over 5 years for a cat to get used to a new situation.

You've pretty much brought an invader into her territory. It's like if Canada started invading the US! The US would flip!

"Hey! There's another cat in my territory." Is running through it's head. It's just mad at your for getting another cat. It wants to be the only cat in your life. Cats get grumpy like that all the time. The don't like change.

When my mom brought my brother home from the hospital after giving birth her cat would stick it's but up in the air, walk off, turn
his back, and wouldn't even talk to her. Now the cat won't leave him alone. Give it time. it will learn to like that kitten.

Play with the kitten too. Cats love string so get about 3 feet of it and drag it on the ground. Good exercise. Great fun!

Hi--
Okay. I've had this problem before with Remi and Chanel, and before that Biscuit and Chanel. Remi was a kitty and Chanel got jealous. (She's spoiled) Remi wants a friend but Chanel is "old" and she doesn't want to deal with it. What I suggest is to let them be. Sox will get used to it soon. Spend a little time alone with both of them. Eventually, they should be able to get along. And it's not too late for Sox, no worries! Good luck and happy "tails"

You can't MAKE them get along. Just let them do their thing and work out their own little agreement. Cats are very territorial though and very independent. It might take a few years, but eventually they'll find a way to deal with each other.

It will just take time. When a cat is used to being the only one, it is frustrating to them when another comes into the family and gets attention! Youll just have to let her get over her temper tantrum. It will pass.. i have 5 cats, all introduced at seperate times, and i thought sometimes that they would NEVER get along.. but now they all curl up on the same pillow! Good luck and be patient with her..

I have a friend who had 8 cats and just got a little rescue kitten from her vet. One of her older cats hated the kitten and beat up on it. She unfortunately had to get rid of the older cat. But she still sees it often. Sadness
BTW - there is a book called Stuff on my Cat. It is funny as - check it out.
