My grandmother miscarried, and prayed to the Blessed Virgin to have a living child (in other words, she asked Mary to intercede with God on her behalf regarding her petition). The next child did, indeed, live to adulthood. So she believed that Mary's intercession did help God to answer her prayer.

to all you only-god-answers-prayers types:

praying to the virgin mary as a proxy to the lord almighty is a very common practice among catholics. a lot of formal prayers are directed to her specifically, and she is worshipped just as much, and often more than jesus himself... especially in spain and portugal and hence in mexico and all of latin america, you can find countless examples of this practice. mary is also by far the most common vision or apparition reported by christians.

i guess many people feel that being indeed only touched by the divine and not divine herself, she would be a bit more accessible with the more trivial behalfs of ordinary day-to-day praying.

that put aside... no, she does not. and if she answers you, i would really like to hear what she is saying. so keep me posted please.

Oh, boy. It is stuff like this that make people think Catholics adore Mary instead of God. Mary cannot answer prayers. Catholics ask Mary to pray WITH us and FOR us to GOD, and HE is the One who answers prayers.

loads of people think of us Catholics 'Pray' to the saints and mom Mary. We pray 'by using' them there by potential of having them deliver a much better message to God. We purely pray to one God no person else. people will say that they 'pray to Saint Micheal' yet they actually propose that there praying by using him. If our prayers are spoke back they are spoke back by potential of God. The saints and Mary are guides in the thank you to set an occasion of ways we could desire to consistently be residing our lives and spreading our potential to others of much less.

My prayers to Mary are requests for intercession, the same as I ask of my own family and friends. And yes, she does answer my prayers by interceding on my behalf, just as my friends and family do. And god grants not only those prayers I speak to Him directly, but also those prayers of intercession spoken to Him on my behalf by others.

Mary is not in the business of answering prayers. Only God/Jesus can hear and answer your prayers.

She was a great woman! I really admire her. But she has never answered my prayers.
Praying to Mary has it's roots in the ancient mother/son worship which took place in Egypt then up through history.,
