It took me years and years and twice as much heart ache. The part that hurt the worst was that I did it to myself. The only way, I believe, it to go through an AA program and follow it to a T. However, this is no gaurantee. Sometimes it takes 2 or more times. Sometimes people are successful in it and then later on start having problems and need to go back. I think of it as AA is somewhat of a vaccine against alcoholism, if you will. Every so often you need to go back for a booster shot. That doesn't mean that you don't give it 110% to begin with. You do the best you can, you learn to be honest with yourself, you learn to give yourself a break, and many other things. The most important thing is that you have to ready to do it for yourself and for the right reasons. You can't do it because someone else wants you to or so you won't lose someone. Look into it. There are so many options these days and ways to pay for it. Life won't really begin for any alcoholic untill they take that first step and then follow up with the next eleven. Good luck. I wish you the absolute very best of luck. You can e-mail me if you like. Just look me up.

If it is becoming a serious problem, then you need professional help and good friends who will support you. Go and talk to your doctor and see if you can work through the reasons that you started drinking and the best ways that will help you. If you have a couple of good friends, who are caring enough to help, then try and be with them more - hopefully you can all go out and they wont tempt you into drinking alcohol by staying off it themselves.

Good luck.

If you have to ask this question, perhaps you should go to a doctor. I'm assuming that you will have physical withdrawls which could suck you right back in. Alcoholism affects you on a cellular level and that makes it one of the hardest of all things to quit. It may be best to seek professional help with this. Good Luck and God Bless.

Change your diet. Well, I'm no professional, but I do know that when people have drinking problems, they also have poor eating habits. Changing your eating habits can become a positive lifestyle change. I used to talk to this guy that drank a lot. He stopped drinking and starting eating healthier and now his personality AND body are so much more attractive. You'd be surprised.

I've been told by my doctor that I'm dependant on the stuff because i have trouble sleeping without it. however a very dear Friend of mine has been clean for over a year now and he tells me that it's all physiological, if you think of it you'll end up wanting one and so fourth, if you don't think you won't want and you'll end up getting over it day by day.......I'm at present been putting this notion to the test because of an ulcer i have and it seems to be true, but god am i going through the lemonade or what. good luck anyway.....

I quit drinking! Here's how I did it. You know how when you drink you put alcohol drink in a glass, you put it in your mouth and then swallow it? Well I discovered that in order to quit drinking, don't do that.

You want to start not-drinking, or you don't. A craving for alcohol is not healthy, like a craving for drugs (caffeine, cigarettes). It is a sign you may be underfed. When you take properly balanced nutrition, alcohol and drugs may simply taste bad. You probably won't even get drunk unless you persist.
