There's a story behind this. I have a son who goes to high school. I get a call from the guidance office, saying that he slapped some girl pretty hard. I went down to the school and picked him up and asked him why he did it. He said that the girl had punched him in the balls really hard and then gloated about it after. So everybody is treating him like the villan, yet I can see exactly why he would do such a thing. In a situation like this, is the course of action he took appropriate?

It's a double standard and hopefully there will be equity some day. Do not punish son. It sounds like he slapped her later, rather that at the time she attacked him. Too bad he wasn't able to clobber her at that moment.

He'll have to learn other ways of payback, though, because the system is set up against the men, and he will only get himself in trouble.
I asked this question some months ago, one woman answered with why they can do this, with "Because we can". Very sad and sorry state of affairs that women still expect respect on a higher level from men than they give.

It is not okay for anyone to hit anyone. Battery and Assult arean't just crimes that can be committed by guys, females can be guilty too. I have never hit a female, and if my girlfriend wasn't mature enough and reserved enough to contain her anger and frustration, I would be finding another girlfriend. Staying with a grown woman that acts like a little girl just maintains that the behavior is ok... as far as that goes... I grew up in a home where my mom went to the hospital at the hands of a male lover of hers many times. Physically striking someone is NEVER the answer to any situation. I also don't believe in hitting back. What a crock of BS, to try and justify violence out of immediate grudge. It's not self defense unless you are REALLY having to defend yourself. Cold Cocking someone for speaking harshly, or looking at you funny generally is a sign that your testes are too big, and that your penis is too small.

Good heavens no!! While what the girl did was totally unacceptable also, there are some real concerns. If your son cannot learn to control his impulses in similiar situations, there could be disastrous results when he is older. Right now he may not be terribly stronger than the girls, but when he is an adult, he could really do some damage.

Besides the "what happened to real gentleman?" arguement, lets look at the NFL for some guidance. When two players get in a fight, who gets the personal foul? Always the last person to hit.

Don't get me wrong, your son has every right to protect himself, but it sounds like his only intent was revenge. Hitting females should never be tolerated.

The girl sounds like a real jerk... but the only thing we can always control is ourselves. Her being a jerk doesn't give your son the green-light for being a jerk also.

Hopefully you'll take this opportunity to teach him how a real man should respond. Being a parent can be so hard, can't it?

Domestic Violence is not gender specific and is against the law.
Your son, rather than slapping the girl (two wrongs) should have reported her to school authorities and or the police.

Simply put it's because guys are obviously much more endowed with strength and they have an unfair advantage. I can understand why he did it, but 2 wrongs still don't make a right. I would go easy on his punishment though.

I really don't think he should of slapped her. But i can understand his reaction from her punching him in the balls. he should of just told the teacher, and she would of got sent home instead of your son. But she needed that.....lol Never hit a guy in the balls. You'll never know what he will do. I bet she was shocked...lol

Men cannot hit woman unless being physcially attacked. That is, in self defence.

I would break her neck if she hit me in the nuts for no reason. I treat everyone equal. What I would do to a man, I would do to a woman. They do want equal rights, don't they?

Also, for all women, if you are in an arguement with a man and he is walking away-don't follow. He is defusing himself. If you follow him as he walks away still griping at him-you deserve everything you get. Get the hint and don't follow-or suffer a beating if you do and don't cry about it.
