the difference between the two cables

You have a good handle on the difference between the two. They are
both 75 Ohm coaxial cable. RG-6 has a larger center conductor. Well
constructed RG-6 will have less loss per 100 meters than well
constructed RG-59. I don't know about your local pricing, but RG-6 is
typically a little more expensive. For most residential applications
the difference in price should be pretty small. When you are a cable
company and are wiring a few hundred thousand houses a year, the
difference in price will probably outweigh the difference in
performance.

RG-6 has more bandwidth than the older RG-59. They are both "regular (75 ohm) coaxial cables", though. If (like me) you have a house prewired with RG-59, using RG-6 from your cable outlets to your TVs won't buy you anything.

RG 6 has a dielectric sheilding that the rg 59 does not it also has a larger center conductor than the 59...gives less signal loss over lengths of 50 feet...
