IRL is not liked for one main reason. A 'spoiled brat' named Tony George, who inherited the daily operations of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Tony's 'vision' was to to have an 'affordable spec series for American Drivers, driving American Cars, powered by American Engines, driving on American Ovals', eliminating such dominant CART teams such as Penske, Newman/Haas, Ganassi, Forsythe, and Green. Except for Tony Stewart, (who 'bailed' to NASCAR), and Sam Hornish Jr., (he caught everyone's "eye" when at Panther Racing), the entire 'concept' of the series has failed by actually attracting "High Buck Teams" Penske, Ganassi, Andretti/Green, and Rahal. Thus ONCE again the one with the MOST money WINS! Result - A Very NASTY split amongst IRL and ChampCar, both losing fans and not gaining many in the process. Even the Indy 500 is a JOKE, they can barely make a 33-car field, and the fans have spoken with their pocket books. Pole Day used to be a grand event bringing in 200,000 fans, now they are 'lucky' if they can even get 20,000!

Until IRL drivers starting going to NASCAR, I thought IndyCar racing was the only kind of auto racing. I still watch IRL races religiously (in addition to NASCAR). The IRL is better than CART (or Champ, or whatever Kalkhoven is calling it today). It's definitely better than F1. IndyCar is about pure speed.

Hopefully I'm not a one-trick pony, so I keep fairly close tabs on several forms of open-wheel racing, including Formula One, Champ Car, the Indy Racing League, GP2, Formula Atlantic, the Indy Pro Series, British Formula Three ...
As for attendance at IRL (or Champ Car) races, the numbers released by the organizers are unreliable and usually inflated. They are not audited and they can tell you whatever they wish

i went to an IRL race a couple of years ago in richmond. there were a few die hard fans there, wearing IRL drivers hats and t-shirts. but most of the people there were NASCAR fans like me just curious to see what it was like. i would estimate there were about 40,000 people there, but marboro gave away about 15,000-20,000 free tickets. compare that to a NASCAR race at richmond where the place is always jam packed with 110,000 people.
@kyle r.: going through life as a racist little punk will not serve you well as an adult. do yourself a favor and adjust your attitude now, while you're young. whitey is not the devil, son.

ChampCar and IRL have to get back together IMO. Apart, they both suck. Together they could keep the best races from circuits. If they went back to the oval at Motegi that would be interesting.

I'm more of a Champ Car guy, myself, but then I'm a Ford nut, too! I used to like really like Danica Patrick, but ever since the controversy of her leaving Rahal/Letterman "because she wants to win races", and her on-track temper tantrums, I've reconsidered.
