Why is it after you break up with a girl and you see her with another guy a couple of days later, you want her back.

jealously, and teh fact that we know your going to be doing something with him that you did with us. Makes the blood boil.

no, we don't necessarily want her back, but it does hurt our pride, which can lead to wanting her back just to salvage that. When we see her with someone else so soon, we think, "well, that didn't take her long...she didn't care I guess" and part of us would like another chance to make her care for real. However, that's a long ways away from actually thinking that we made a mistake breaking up with her, and would have a fulfilling relationship after that.

It's a territory/posessions thing. We seem to think that once a woman has been a girlfriend of ours, she remains so after we've broken up. We automatically feel aggressive to any male we see with an ex-girlfriend unless you've been apart for a long time.
It's one of our most primative instincts and we've still not been able to shift it despite our alleged evolution. I think it's one of the reasons that staying friends after a relationship doesn't work.
There are those here that will say they don't respond in this way but they do, they're just not aware of their behaviour. It's a hard thing to look at yourself, see the truth and accept it...warts and all.

Jealousy, of course. We still tend to be a bit possessive immediately after a relationship, and we're not used to seeing our ex with another guy. It's just too big of a change.

There are still feelings there. She was already with you and you can't stand seeing her with another guy. It takes a while to get over it.

Its not only with men, its a problem with women too. There are just some people who can't let go that easily.
