you need to tease your hair and then have a smooth layer to go over top... to make it poofy on top....

then hairspray, hairspray, hairspray... and some smoothing agent of some sort...

The hairstyle on your avatar is fairly simple to do. What you need:
-a comb
-hairspray
-a hair clip (not band)
& of course patience.
Grab a good section of hair & try to center the lines w/ the top of your head. Spray the underside of this hair. Maybe even create more sections in it & use the hairspray to get an even coat throughout this whole section. NOT TOO MUCH. Use the hairspray sparingly since you can always add on later (rather than trying to take out the hairspray & start over).

Once the hairspray is pretty dry: Hold the hair perpendicular to your head & "tease" it using your comb. To "tease" your hair you bring the comb (depending on the length of your hair) probably about halfway, down towards the roots. Like a backwards motion (if that makes sense). Don't do it too much & wear out the hairspray, but do it enough to create volume at the roots.
Once you've "poofed" (not a technical term hahaha) up this section of hair then it's very simple. Clip your hair to the top of your head. You may need to push this hair more towards your face to creat the illusion that the volume is there. Either way, it takes practice. Be patient with yourself. If my instructions didn't make any sense, try looking up teased looks or rock & roll looks online.

I know how but its hard to explain...

I'll try though!

1. Pull your hair back into a ponytail BUT leave a layer of bangs in the front (it will be used later).
2. The ponytail must be tight, do not tie it yet.
3. The bangs are then pulled back LOOSELY until they meet the point that is going to be tied.
4. Tie where the hair ends at the heads, or in other words, where the hair meets the back of the head.
5. Looking in the mirror, you should see that the bangs you pulled back formed a hill or raised lump, and they are connected to a ponytail, which you can braid and look like Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider!

Have fun!

PS: I'm a guy. I'm 14. HAHA. Wow, what an awesome night.

Yes part your hair on each side and pull all the hair on top of your head back back leaving it slightly loose,( do not ever tease your hair! This damages it) clamp a barrett at the crown of your head.. Then pull all of your hair very smooth to the back and sucure it at the bottom (top of neck) with a large barette or some type of rubberband! Lightly spray to hold in place!
