I want to change me last name, but what will happen to my credit card under my current name? Will they simply issue me a new card, or do they have to run a brand new credit check, etc before they can issue me a new card?

if u bring in a letter or fax of name change they normal look at both credit histories. shouldn't be a big deal.

oh i wouldn't give my credit card out over the phone, or mail, or email, i go down in person. or fax it to their home office after i make sure its the right number.

People change names all the time but you will have to notify your creditors and quite often provide proof with the document. At that point they will issue you a new card. You will have alot of places to notify of the new name... employer, driver's license bureau, checking account and other bank accounts/401K, library, shopper's cards, credit bureau, social security office, IRS, etc.

They should just issue another card with your new name. You may need to send them a copy of your marriage license or notarized letter to that effect. I would call the credit card company and ask them.

If you legally change your name, you are obviously still maintaining the same SSN. Your credit file is attached to your SSN, therefore your credit remains the same.

However, they will make the name change onto your new SSN card, but your SSN remains the same.
