I gained about 40 lbs while I was pregnant and I'm having a hard time losing the weight (diet alone isn't doing it.) I gained a lot of weight in my thighs and arms (and of course my belly.)

What are some good exercises I can do at home to regain my pre-pregnancy body?

Thank you :)

I have three children and each time I gained more than 50 lbs and lost it all. Rule number 1: Be patient with yourself. It takes time--give yourself six months to get to pre-baby shape. It might not take that long, but don't be discouraged if it does. It's perfectly normal, and remember, the slower it comes off the greater the likelihood it will stay off.

Secondly, I think breast-feeding is the key to rapid weight loss after pregnancy, so be sure to breast feed your baby.

It's amazing how a few exercises done in the morning and the evening, for about 15-20 minutes, can help you regain your muscle tone. Some simple ab crunches, leg lifts with weights, push ups, and things like that can bring your shape back amazingly fast.

Also, make sure you drink plenty of water, because a lot of your baby weight is really excess water, and drinking plenty of fresh water helps to flush out your system.

Oh--if there's a good yoga or low impact aerobics class is your area, try to sign up. It will give you some time to yourself and help you reach your weight loss goals even faster. Chances are, you'll meet other women with new babies there, and make new friends! Good luck, and congratulations!

Just exercise. But do alot of cardio and add weight training as well. I recommend pilates, that's what I've been usuing to tone everything up and then I use 10 pound dumbbells for the body sculpting exercises and I try to do an hour of cardio a day. Usually jogging in the morning and pushing the baby in the stroller after work. So far I've lost 30 of the 50 pounds I gained. Keep in mind,it took 9 months to make a baby,it will take about that long to lose the baby weight.

Walking is great exercise for the whole body, and the fresh air is good for you and baby too! Yoga is fantastic, just be sure to start out with a beginners yoga and then work you way up. I did yoga before and during my pregnancy and it did wonders for my body, and made delivery easier too. It's a great way to stretch, build tone and strength, and you feel so good afterwards.

Good luck shedding those pregnancy pounds but remember: It took 9 months to gain that weight, it will probably take a year to get it all off.

Get out there and walk, fast, at least a mile a day, and keep on a reduced-calorie diet. Crunches will be a great help, too. When you start to lose weight, you'll lose it in all areas of your body - legs, arms and belly - and the crunches will tone those stretched-out abs.

I would go to amazon.com and look up '10 minute solution' they have tons of great workout DVD's, so I'm sure you could find one to suite you best.
Also a plus for a new mom is that their divided into 10 minute sections so you can find time to do the whole DVD while still being able to take care of your baby.

Martial arts not only took me back to my pre-pregnancy weight, but I actually went below it and dropped a dress size.

and I had a baby 9 months ago.....

I've been having great luck with belly dancing. It's low impact, easy to learn, and my one year old likes to boogie along with mommy!
