A while ago, I was watching a show in which a woman had hiccups for a whole week without stopping, even in her sleep. Anyways, the doctors stopped them by placing his fingers a little above her eyebrows and holding them there for a minute or so. It should stop soon.

Simple. Hiccups are caused by the electrical signal in your diaphram getting out of whack. The diaphram is the muscle your brain involuntarily tells to breath.

When one of my students gets the hiccups, I have them stand in front of me, and hold their breath - as long as possible. I watch to make sure they don't make themselves pass out, but also to get them to hold their breath just a second or two longer than they normally might.

This interrupts that signal again, putting it back into alignment with your diaphram's normal breathing pattern. It has never failed to work.

In fact, anything that interrupts that signal - a teaspoon of lemon juice, a scare, is meant to do exactly the same thing.

You'll probably get many answers to this, but I've found--& it works! --gulping down a glass of water, or, holding my breath as long as possible. I've no idea why either one works, only that they do. Just try & see what happens...
