It is not so much of a concern because of the following points:

1) They are adults. They have lived their prime years...and do not have so much to look forward to as a youth would.

2) Adults are supposed to be wiser and more mature that a youth. When the decision of suicide is made within an adult, they are supposed to have debated the pros and cons of their decision.

3) Because they are adults they are supposed to be able to deal with their own problems better than youth. They are supposed to be able to find better means of alleviating their problems that suicide, and when it happens we say "That's their problem"

4) Adults are already adults. They have already grown up. If youth decide to kill themselves the future becomes at stake. It is the responsibility of the adults to take care and mind the youth so that they can become the adults of tomorrow. It is in the hands of the youth the future and society of tomorrow. Without the youth of today we will have no adults of tomorrow.

Get me?

Suicide is still a great concern among older people, but it is still a greater concern when it is a youth suicide. The future is a big factor in this rate of concern.

Okay for something to be valid it has to be, for example,
1) A=B,
2) if A=B then B=C,
3) if #2 then A=C

And anything, no matter how little sense it makes, can be A, B + C to be valid. Then, if ALL points are valid (i.e., true) the statement is sound.

Your statement is an opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

(BTW: My reasoning is based off a Contemporary Moral Problems class I was once in.)

Suicide among older people is a large concern.... men over 65 are most likely to succeed at suicide next to young men in their 20s. Depression increases with a decrease in testosterone and in 'meaningful occupation'. Alcohol abuse within this age group is also endemic.

yes it is a concern, and should be, as much as any other person taking their own life...life is a gift and we should treat it as so....whether you've treated your gift with care are tried to destroy it, it was still a gift, and I'm sure most of the older people wouldn't consider suicide if their children and grandchildren came and visited them and made them feel like they were something more than just a burden....no one ever real want to kill them self unless they are in pain, be it mental or physical... so maybe someone needs to be paying more attention to the elderly parents and relatives.....who will be looking after you one day when you need it?

Suicide at any age is a concern. I find comments like no one gives a rat's *** very offensives. One needs to have compassion. To take one's own life is really self criticism or "life" criticism in the extreme and indicates a person who was/is expericnein undo "suffering" or pain in life. We ought to be concerned when any person of any nationality, creed or colour suffers.

This statemant depends under the situations. If they are considering suicide for relief of pain then they should see a doctor, but in no way is it of no concern to us. Many people care about the elderly and as such care for them. However, because of senility (senile) many elderly say they want to but really don't.

I think it should be a concern, suicide is wrong and if someone is thinking no matter the age then someone should be there to help them Life should be important no matter the age.

Actually it is not valid. Studies show that even 'tho many older people are happy, some are depressed about their failing health or isolation from friends/family. Every now and then you may read how a man kills his wife and then himself. A lot of those are older men.

This is completely wrong. Suicide is most certainly a concern amongst older adults.
