Simple tell him no, that you're not interested. If you don't make it clear that you're not interested, he's going to assume that you don't want to go out of him because of third-party issues and that can serve to increase his attentions towards you. And you don't want that.

If you say yes even though you don't want to, on the long run it will hurt him far worse than just telling him right off you don't want to. He'll think that you were just playing with him, and that you were never true to him.

And in that kind of situation, violence borne from revenge can result from his part. Reject him before it gets any more serious.

Good luck!

I think that I would be very honest with them and tell them that I don't want to go out right now and then in a nice way let them know that you need your space to yourself for the time being.

Don't do it. It isn't really doing someone a favor to give them a sympathy date. First of all it gets thier hopes up and makes it even harder when they are let down. Also...imagine how you would feel if you found out someone went out with you because they didn't want you to feel bad? Which is worse? Being told no thanks? Or a pity date that you may have been really into?

You have to tell them no I am sorry but I am not interested. You can't lead them on you'll just get yourself into more trouble it is better to be honest. But, on the other hand if you go out with them you might find out that you have come to like them.

Instead of doing the formal dinner-date thing, just go with him for lunch or something, then either split the bill or pay for it. That way, it doesn't seem like a formal date either.
As long as you dont lead him on, he'll eventually sense that you only wanna hang with him as a friend, not a real date.

Tell them you arent interested plain and simple. Candy coating something will only hurt him more when he realizes. Its hard to be gentle turning someone down but is always better than leading them on.

Tell them your flattered that they asked you out, but you're not dating at the moment. Don't go into a big explanation. Just be as nice as you can with out being condescending.
