I felt like that at one point. I had everything I ever wanted materially (a nice house, nice car, etc.) yet having achieved all of that just seemed to deepen the sense of depression I felt inside.

I had spent much of my life thinking that things would be ok when this or that happened, or when I had the perfect life. Once I had it on the outside, I realized what they meant by "Happiness is an inside job".

I realized that it was ok to allow myself to feel sad at times and not wallow in the self pity and to fully appreciate the joys life has to offer. You will get there... you are on the right path. Honor and cherish being exactly where you are right now. It will get better.

If it persists for any length of time, speak to your doctor about the possibility of a biochemical depression. Best wishes to you.

From experience with various bouts of depression, I can assure you, sometimes there are factors that you can't help that can make you depressed.

The first thing is age. I'm not sure how old you are, but if you're an adolescent or even under 25, you're in the age bracket that is most prone to depression. If you are older, it is still very normal to feel depressed. Depression is one of the most underrated issues that people face and they don't realize how many other people suffer with it.

My suggestion to you is first, go to the doctor. Rule out any thyroid problems or others that may cause a decreased mood.

Second, make sure you are eating and sleeping right. If you read about exactly how essential and crucial sleeping, eating, and exercising correctly are to your daily health and mood, you'll see how important it is. In my high school days, I would stay up very late and I barely ate because I was busy and suffereing from general teenage malaise. I wondered about chronic fatigue syndrome (which is another possibility). So make sure you have a full AND balanced diet, you're sleeping enough (teens need as much as 9 hours each night . . .adults about 7.5), and that you're getting some form of excercise and sun exposure. Keeping your heart rate up for 20+ minutes 3 times a week will do wonders. As little as ten minutes of sun exposure to your forearms will give you a sufficient amount of vitamin D from the sun.

I, as well as several other people I know, have tried anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medicines, but they have done nothing.

The way that I got through depression was by knowing my triggers (related to diet, sleep, stress, etc) and to put myself in constant check about my attitude. Attitude is a huge thing when it comes to depression. If you appreciate little things, always look for positive aspects in everything (even problems), etc, it becomes a habit.

I've said it to a lot of people on here, but happiness is a way of life.

Feel better.

ps - as a pet lover, I would highly recommend a cat or dog. They are amazing companions if you think you'd enjoy one and they are proven to improve people's mood and health in hospitals and nursing homes. good luck!

That's sort of two questions. The first is---Why do I always feel sad---maybe its depression, maybe you should check on the web and maybe your doctor on what you can do.
The second---I have the best life---it sounds like it may be the best monitarily, but its not the most challenging and satisfying to you. Maybe you should check on some activities you could do to help you feel more challenged to be your best and be more satisfied with your life.

Is this feeling of sadness a new experience? Are you not getting the joy out of the things that once made you happy? I'd definitely get evaluated for depression. If it's depression, and you get help, you will be glad you did when you start finding joy in your life once again.

If by 'best life' you mean you have money and the best things, material things can not fully satisfy you. You have to look for more than that. Maybe it's religion you're lacking (i recommend Islam lol). But just search for something non-material.

It's a state of mind. Do some charity work, volunteer for things in your area. That'll bring you emotional rewards.
