Whenever my dog scratches her left ear she always yelps loudly. We think she might have ear mites and might try putting some baby oil in her ears and cleaning it out with some q-tips. But we dont know if thats even the problem or if she has a different problem or if not a different way to fix it. any help appreciated!

please take her to the vet. she could have a severe ear infection. She could lose her hearing if you ignore it. on top of the fact that she is OBVIOUSLY in pain. Don't listen to her cry and do nothing.

You need to see a vet ASAP. It could be mites, but I doubt it. If she is crying she most likely has a foreign matter in her ear that is causing her PAIN. Don't clean the dogs ears with a qtip. Use a kleenix and twist it up so it looks like a pencil, put it into the dogs ear and turn it while pushing it down into her ear canal. You will see if she has matter on it when you remove it and it will also clean the ear canal. You can puncture an ear drum with a qtip EASY. If her ear smells she has a yeast infection in the canal. You can also purchase ear rinse to clean the canal. She need to see a vet though. SHE IS IN PAIN.

Try taking her to the vet she could have an infection or ear mites and scratched it raw. Treating without knowing for sure what the problem is can harm your dog and make the problem worse and more expensive to treat.

Your best bet is to take her to the vet. She may have an ear infection. Does her ear smell bad? Does it look dirty (like wax in it). If so, she has an infection that needs to be treated with drops. Some infections are really bad and can cause permanent damage if not treated properly. Until you can get her in . . get an ear cleaning solution from the pet store and follow it's directions for cleaning her ears. Good luck!

it is a strong possibility that it is ear mites. and maybe her ear just itch and her toe nails are hurting her when she is scratching. the ear will be very black with what looks like dirt. the pet shop ,southern states and walmart have ear mite med for that and you do not need to use q-tips. it is not wise to use q-tips. a cloth will help and be gentle. but l hear baby oil would held but l do not think it works fast enough. check her toe nail and keep them trim. good luck and if those are not the cases, check with your vet

stop the baby oil, and get her to a vet. our dog had the same problem, he had pointy ears, and a lot of bacteria built up in there. it wasnt ear mites, but just dirty ears. you can get something to help the problem for now, we got a two step dog ear cleaner. it had a lotion like 1st step to clean the ear, and a powdery 2nd step to ease the pain and itching. but get her to a vet so you can help her longterm, and not constantly have to clean her ears if it isnt just bacteria. hope that helps

The best thing for ear mites is tea tree oil, not baby oil.
The only way to know what is really wrong is to take her to the vet.

Ear infection. She will need medication that can only be prescribed by a vet.
