One can only hope that Christianity, like all religions, is on the decline. Unfortunately, I don't think it is.

To be clear, I respect everyone's right to believe whatever they want - too often religion is the only thing that gives an individual the strength to carry on in times of need or grief.

But as an institution, Christianity (again, like all religions) is morally and intellectually bankrupt. The history of Christianity is steeped in racism, sexism and classism. Whether one is talking about the Inquisition, the witch trials or more contemporarily, "Satanic Panic," Christianity has little, if anything, in common with the egalitarian lessons which Jesus taught.

As Max von Sydow said in the film Hannah and Her Sisters, "If Jesus came back today and saw what was being done in his name, he would never stop vomiting."

If Christianity is being mocked as you say, it is not because we are in the "last days" - throughout history there have been Christians proclaiming "the end is near" - but rather, Christianity is being mocked because it is so hopelessly out of touch with reality.

The Catholic Church, the various Protestant demoninations, the Mormons or the Jehovah's Witnesses, have nothing but contempt for anyone who would dare to question their canon.

It seems to me that if there is an all-powerful god who created the heavens and the earth, that such a god would be a god of REASON. That is, such a god would act, not according to whim, but by what he/she/it knew to be a rational act.

To get back to the premise of your question, people have always been selfish - that's hardly a "sign" of the "end." If people want to do the "work of the Lord," then they should stop spending so much time preaching and pontificating and spend more time healing, sheltering and helping their fellow human beings.

Look at George W. Bush - he honestly believes (and has said so publicly) that god speaks to him. Well, isn't this EXACTLY what Osama bin Laden, Pat Robertson, the late Ayatollah Kohemeni, the Pope, David Koresh and other religious fanatics believe?

When has humanity ever humbled itself to the point that it says, "Gosh, whatever form god may take, it must be beyond my comprehension?" Never. Every religious person KNOWS exactly who god is and what god wants. That's pretty presumptuous.

Humanity, especially the religiously devout, need a little bit more humility and a lot less certainty. Even a cursory lesson in world history reveals that the world's religions are murderous institutions.

Well, generally people grow up to believe similar to their parents. There are some who are 'converted', but on the whole this is a good approximation.

Since the average birth rate for Christian families is about 2.1 children per couple, Christianity is staying about level.

Muslim, on the other hand, which permits multiple wives and lots of children, is on the rise into the future at an staggering rate (I think its more like 4:1) .

Look at the birth rates of atheists or agnostics, and it is about 1.4 children per family, so these are on the decline going into the future.

Birth rates are critical to the success of nations or cultures -- heck, just look at how Germany and most of Europe are doing -- they will be in real trouble when the 1 child per 2 parents grows up and has to support twice as many people in their retirement!

and in those last days, I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh. This does not mean that there will be an increase in the number of Christians as many will apparently fall away at the end.

warning signs from the Bible are
Wars, rumours of wars
the appearance of false Christs and false apostles
the performing of miracles, i.e sorcerers
there will be many antiChrists
many Christians will be persecuted at the end
there will be a tidal wave of hatred directed towards them.

glad we haven't seen much of that, it could be a terrible omen!

those that have will be given more and those that have none, will be given none.

this indicates that the Christians who remain steadfast will derive great strength to survive but those who are not willing to receive will be given nothing and perish.

this is why when i get the chance i advise people to keep an open mind and heart, just in case there really is something good that they can be given........ if their hands are open.

I think there is a decided decrease in the influence of Christianity in Western culture. I also believe we are in a period called "the apostasy" in Scripture. (II Thessalonians 2:2)
At the same time Christianity is flourishing in third world countries and particularly in China, where some estimate the number of believers to be over 100 million. I expect hostility and disdain for Christianity to continue increasing in Western civilization, even as violence and lawlessness increase. As it says in Isaiah 60:2; "For behold, darkness will cover the earth, and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord will rise upon you, and his glory will appear upon you."
Many are reaching out to the unreached people groups of the world. This is essential before the Lord's return. He said "the Gospel of the Kingdom shall preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations (ethnic groups), and then the end shall come." (Matthew 24:14)
As for the multitudes who have rejected the Gospel of the Grace of God, they will shortly be judged. "While they are saying "Peace!" and "Safety!", then destruction will come upon them suddenly like birth pangs upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape." (I Thessalonians 5:3)

Don't have any idea about most of that stuff but your primary question seemed to concern the relative decline of Christianity. that has been studied and reported in several demographic reports from many countries. It is absolutely on the decline worldwide. lol

This isn't the Spanish inquisition is it?

If you mean by Christian is anyone who goes to church and claim he knows or believes Jesus, perhaps you are wrong.
But if you mean by Christian is a person who follow His footsteps and and example in everything, and keep His commandments, you are right. They are going to decrease, and finally when the
super poiwer and super church combine their strength in persecuting those who do not want to accept their mark, then very few among the real Christians will remain.

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ (Matthew 7:21-23)

8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear.
15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or[f] the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation :13:8-18)

7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them. 10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where[b] the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. (Revelation 20:7-10)

I think the doctrine you heard could be interpretted that in the last days there will be no middle ground... people will either be christians or despise it. So in other words all the people who are currently in the middle ground are picking sides therefore there is an increase in the mockers, as well as in the christians

Christinity is in the decline. Like anything "what goes up, must come down". Most people are now more educated than in past eras and are begining to question thing that were once set in stone. (excuse the pun).
