It's not just for TV. I don't it everywhere I go. Religious fantasy should be mocked in all forms. The shows you mentioned also mock other religions too.

I don't watch Family Guy and South Park (or even the Simpsons) for the very reason that some of the "jokes" are rude, inapropriate, or offensive, and I am not just talking about the ones about religion.
As for your question, Islam is probably mocked too. Perhaps mystical religions such as Hindiums and Buddism are also mocked. Sometimes comedians even make fun of people from a certain race or people who come from a certain place in the U.S. or other parts of the world. Some people find this to be funny, either because they see it as a harmless joke that means nothing, or something that is actually true and it's funny that someone would actually say that.
The only answer I can give you is that, because of free speech, it is legal and they assume that if anybody is offended, then those people just don't watch it. Apparently if those shows are still on the air, they have enough viewers enjoying what they show so that they can keep doing it. This, of course, does not necessarily make these actions right, but it does make them easy to get away with.

You point to the wrong shows. The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park all make fun of atheists just as readily as they do Christians. In fact, some authors make the argument that South Park and Christianity are actuallly pro-faith shows that very subtly promote traditional thought. I don't know if I'd go that far but I will say that generally those are decent shows.
There are shows and what not that directly offend Christian sensibilities, I agree. But I'm more concerned about MTV and smut tv that is more and more pervasive. Two and a half men, Grey's Anatomy, and others all promote a loose morals in a secular context. While I admit Christians can watch those shows and still be good Christians I think the societal impact from smut tv is much worse than silly ol' South Park.

No it's not ok. I believe that Christians have lost their identity and have been browbeaten for having Christian beliefs. The politically correct police are to blame for this. And we have bought it hook, line and sinker.
We have become "sheeple". If we make our claim, we are immediately labeled " fanatics" "facists" "fundamentalists".
In contrast:
I think the example the Amish set for this country about forgiving the murderer of their children a few months ago was awsome. Humility speaks volumes.
There is also a double-standard. Christianity is mocked constantly in these shows, and in movies, however, it Islam were to be ridiculed in the same way....watch out!! All the bleeding hearts will be on every talk/news show for weeks ranting and raving.
The only people who I have heard speak up against anti-christian activities have been the "Catholic League" -with Dr. William Donohue as the spokesman for it.
The other person is Dr. James Dobson with his organization "Focus on the Family".
There might be more, but these two stand out for me.

This is huge evidence that the things of God are hated by the world. The entire media has a green light to slam Christians in stereotypes and negative portrayals. When was the last time youve seen a Christian character in a movie or TV in a positive light? (Not talking about Christian themed shows like 7th Heaven or Touched By an Angel).
College kids are taught that descriminating against all groups is wrong but its okay to slam Christians because they are ignorant. Even in schools kids can where Satanic clothes and outfits, dress half naked, celebrate their homosexual inclinations, but if a small group of Christian kids want to have a prayer or bible study its illegal or not tolerated.
Christians should not be surprised. This is how Christ said the world would be. We should not ever expect the world to love us

Personally, I think it is funny, and perhaps Christians should calm down a little bit. I remember once learning to turn the other cheek. As it turns out, everyone that watches these shows is not Christian and some people still like to laugh.

Did you know the Christian church has killed more people in the world than any terrorist group in history ? In the 1600's at least 150,000 people were killed because the good Christians thought they were a "witch". Most of these were women. Many were burned alive. Early Christian explorers tried to destroy every culture they came into contact with because they were'nt Christian. Thousands were raped, robbed, and murdered. And you're worried about a couple of silly TV shows ?

I savor the diatribe. Protestant individuals specially have traditionally had some style of worry of Catholics. Yeah, the priest sex abuse hasn't helped, inspite of the indisputable fact that the dislike change into there a lengthy time period earlier. As a baby of a "blended" marriage of a Protestant to a Catholic, I listen anti-Catholic rants from early formative years. what's great is the Catholics in no way appeared to have a favor to make interesting or Protestants. besides, your question advantages a one-be conscious answer: question: Why do human beings imagine it truly is okay to make interesting of the Catholic church??? answer: lack of expertise

Some other religions riot and murder people whom they feel have insulted their religion. Christians, so far, have been remarkably tolerant of the most offensive and blasphemous provacations imaginable. So, those who see no serious consequences to their behavior, brazenly insult the Christian religion and its followers because they can. I would like to see some artist put a Qu'ran in a bucket of urine in the name of art and see what would happen to him and any institution that dared to display it.

I don't think it's okay to ridicule any religion at all. I'm not a Christian, but if any Christians out there do feel offended by the jokes on tv they should do something about it. No one deserves to have their faith mocked.
