Do you think that public education in the US is any good or in need of major work? Tell us why and what you think needs to be done or not done.

It depends on where you live. If you live in a financially successful community, chances are the education system is great because the tax payers will demand it.

If you live in a poverty stricken neighborhood, it's more likely that unless some philanthropist came in and revitalized it, the education system is sadly in need of repair. From my observation, the schools are a direct reflection of their economic community.

It really depends on the school district, mine is amazing with great funding but some are terrible, so they all need help in different ways
