my dog is 3 and a half years old.. she is a sweet dog that is very protective... every time she is around people she licks and licks and licks them... i thought it was sweet of her... i always said to people its better than growling at people... she doesnt jump, just licks to the annoying point... how do i get her to stop... i try to stop her and tell her enough every time.... but it doesnt seem to work.... anyone have any ideas?? thanks!!!
ps she is a rottie, so its not a small little lick, its a huge lick...

Our Boxer Dog 3years old does the exact same thing. The only thing we can do when people are over is hold our dog or put her on a leash. so she won't go towards people.

Oh and there is a mat out there that says "my dog can't hold its licker" I know cause we baught it at one of our local dog store! of course everybody laugh's when they see it but then they don't realize how true it is until they see it for real!! Then they just get a kick out of it.

THAT IS WHAT THEY DO!!!

They lick and lick EVERYTHING!!!!

If you want to change her habits (or his) say their name ONCE to get their attention. THEN you say QUIT! or STOP! or whatever. THe library book I read said they learn by ONE WORD.

Get you a book from the library. You can only train a dog for up to three years then they get their own mind. (that's what the library book said)
